Did I miss anything? (as I sidestep in wearing mustache glasses :clown: )

All I can say is thank you Peter for completely saving a month's blood sweat and tears from being disqualified, and thank you Frostline for backing up the Bass Professor. Even though I only used it as a dynamic eq, looks like some dirt is also allowed.

I updated, got rid of the Acon plug, got rid of all the GClips (they were just catching stray peaks early on and weren't necessary in the end). Interestingly, I think it sounds better now. The cumulative affect may have been damaging things.

I did forget to mention SlickHDR.....so added that to the list

Artsy, catchy, heavy, light, weird, emulative...everyone has their different styles, but we are all slightly off our rockers

Woohoo... great to be in such company... ))))

jeez dingys, looks like i opened a can of shitworms.

I wasn't saying anyone was breaking the rules. I just stated my opinion. In a outbursty way :P

I didn't mean to make anyone feel sad, and I wasn't directing my rant at anyone directly.

but when i see the words "One Synth Challenge", to me it says, "use only this synth, see how far you can push it. Make it do things that you possibly didn't know it could do. Find the outer limits of the thing. Not "ok yeah I used a synth, but this is my big smoothly chiselled production." A bit of EQ here, a bit of compression there, a bit of distortion here, a bit of whatever there... it all adds up, to be NOT THE SYNTH. It's fine if you don't share this belief, I'm not selling it, i'm just saying, that's what a ONE SYNTH CHALLENGE immediately suggests to me. I think i have to put all semantics aside if I'm to not get lynched for my beliefs, and I'm not sure if I'll do another one of these "challenges", but i had a lot of fun, and learned a bit about the new Thorn synthesiser.

Agree to disagree. Sorry if you feel like i am devaluing or attempting to invalidate your submissions or anything similar. And i definitely wasn't insinuating we have a sudden rule change and disqualify anyone, lord. I genuinely love all you guys, and love to listen to your hard work. Anyone who knows me is aware that I just wear my heart on my sleeve a bit. I'm not one to bottle too much stuff up inside. Makes it hard to fit in with Greng Jai in Thailand sometimes, but hey. I have an opinion, i say it. But i also love to listen to yours.

I'm genuinely sorry if i freaked anyone out over my post. Chill chill. You're rad, let's have a cup of tea or a beer or both.

@sqigls,

Well now that you are offering beer....It's all good. Bottoms up!! I was just responding (lightheartedly I thought). I wasn't mad, sad or anything. And then....haha. I just sorta figured being daddy daycare had you all worked up anyway. My wife travels a lot for work, so after about a day and a half I've just about lost my mind with 4 spawns of hell on the loose.

HA!
yeah, my skin is all blotchy, and i have a lazy pink left eye.

no more coffee for daddy.

A trancey number this month, appropriate for this very entrancing synth. Definitely the least number of effects I've ever had to use on a track, and the ones used were more subtle.

Thorn is definitely one of the most user friendly synths I've ever worked with, I think a purchase may be in my future. Had a lot of fun playing around with the glitch module - genius!

46 instances of Thorn within Ableton.

DAW effects used: EQ Eight (mostly for low cut), Compressor (mostly for side-chain), Limiter, Utility, Reverb x 2
Free effects used: MStereoExpander x 2, Auburn Sounds Panagement x 1, Sleepytime Records Transient x 2

Although not an effect, I used mvMeter a lot to look at levels. Great little VUMeter.

Almost done, phew. :P

23 instances, not much used in terms of effects from Thorn. I found them limited compared to the alternatives.

edit: jumping to 1.05 saved my patches!

If you are using an older version of Thorn in Windows, there is a glitch that causes a problem with the waveforms reloading. Version 1.05 fixes this. If this is he case, you still may be able to salvage the patches. If the oscillators and the harmonic filter show the default waveform and the name of the waveform is the actual one used for the patch, just reload it right there. OR update to 1.05 and everything should return back to normal.

--- PLEASE ADVISE ---
When does the TRIAL license expire for Thorn?

if i can get my track done it will be down to the last minute, so I need to render it before it starts making the whooshing noise again, and it's going to be tight for me this time...

Post

Alrighty, here goes a nearly complete departure of the kind of music I "normally" make...

VioLovac - or The Hunter

Thorn instances: #21 ( http://dmitrysches.com/products/thorn )
DAW: Mulab ( www.mutools.com )
Internal FX: Mid-Side Processor, delay_cross, level compressor
3rd Party FX: Auburn Sounds Panagement, Abstract Chamber, Unlimited, LoudMax64, OTT

Because of Thorn's internal FX, I hardly used any other besides limiting and 2 instances of Abstract Chamber for that special something, besides an equally sparse use of Panagement, which I just can't stay away from.
This was an outstanding experience, really, and I am really thrilled the OSC introduced us to Thorn. It somehow made me do, well, the above, which brought me to a different kind of place and shoved me pretty deep into it, too. Thanks to last months wonderful gift, I'm already a proud owner of Thorn and it's one I can recommend to anyone without hesitation! :tu:

Man - I never even thought of that. I'm going to be late too :o
Hope that doesn't mess it up !

I don´t believe the Thorn trial license expiring here is the issue. But the OSC site says, that the callenge runs from 1st to last every month (clock: KVR time). I.e. you have to leave your submission inside this period, before the November end in KVR time.
