Take printers.... If I wanna buy a new printer I can take a look in the store where they all stand in the window with a nice colour print that shows their great quality. Well... only it's a different photo on each printer cause each printer brand has their own demo photo.. It could be an honest and useful thing if there was an agreement to a common test standard. So I could take a look at a print of the same picture from each printer. That would allow for some usefull comparisons.

So what's the relevance. Well, I was thinking the same with audio plugins. What about introducing some commonly available wav-files that developers could demo their plugins on. That way we would have a better chance of taking decissions when listeing to demo mp3's because we know how that wav file sounds on other stuff.

Ok, I admit it. I'm a bit drunk....but I kind of still mean this

Following the logic of your statement there should never be any demo mp3's on developers site to demonstate the plugins? Because we can just download and try for ourselves?

Of course you are right that the best way of judging a plugin is to try it ourselves. I'm just saying it might be an idea to make mp3 demo's be made from common starting points.

I think so. I've listened to maybe 2-3 mp3 demos years ago. The way I read it, robert was saying download the demo's of the plugs you want to compare and then run your own test .wav's through them. Just like you could go to the store with a .jpg on a cd and ask them to print it for you on various printers so you could compare (most salespeople will happily oblige if they beleive you're going to buy something).
