Heart - "Magic "Man" 1975 - synths in rock...

Right about at 5 minutes, the moog appears - Howard Leese. Heard this on my way home last night, and dating myself as I often do (not dating, Vurt, but dating), I vividly recall riding around with my friends in the country, drinking and smoking' weed like the rednecks we were, and hearing this on really good speakers - the deepness of that synth when it gets to that low point. We were, "Whoa, dude."
Synths were a bit of a mystery - and we didn't know that was a synth - we didn't know what it was. My first "knowledge" of a synth was seeing on the credits of "Who's Next" that Townshend was playing a synthesizer on Baba O'Riley. Hearing that gave me really no sense of what a synth was.
And then seeing Rush in 1975, a friend pointed out that Geddy Lee was "f**kin' playin' a synth was his feet!" Still didn't help me.
I feel like I read this here somewhere, but it's almost like synths in rock in the 70's were a bit of a guilty pleasure.

does my big hairy face enter your mind as you finish?
as for your thinking youd read it somewhere...
queen famously had the "no synthesisers where used on this record" sticker on an album, could be that?

For crissake, why in the world would that worry you? You should be thrilled - this is sight unseen, man. And for matters like this this, precision in description is of the upmost importance for the highest most pleasurable results....so...just how big is your face? The amount of hair I can go in any direction...basically speaking.vurt wrote:what worries me is when you think of self loving you think of me

This is probably what I'm thinking about - the thumbing of the nose at "fake instruments" other rockers used in the 70's. Queen's version of organic.vurt wrote:as for your thinking youd read it somewhere...

Ann Wilson is one of the few singers who can belt rock and roll while both, staying crystal clear and remaining on perfect pitch.aMUSEd wrote:Heart's first 3 albums were outstanding (pre 80's shit rock makeover)

Dog and Butterfly.
Heart also does 'Battle of Evermore' better than Zep ever did, at least live.
I duuno about synths. The Beatles used a Moog on Abbey Road; Floyd and Genesis obviously used them, so they've been around.
This business with Queen is hilarious, given that they couldn't 'organically' reproduce the harmonies in Bohemian Rhapsody on stage. When I saw them, they just sorta huddled together on the stage while the tape played. I was not impressed.
