You can also download some DX banks and start with them - there are tons of nice presets available to download.skyscape wrote:I was looking for the presets in the plugin itself, down the bottom - but the host does indeed load them. We'll put that one down to me not having had my morning coffee yet when I was demoing. Have purchased and looking forward to playing with it more

Just remember that Aurora FM has much more options than DX7, so DX7 presets should be just a base for future exploring. But it's a very good base if you are not good at desinging sounds from the scratch (like meskyscape wrote: Great suggestion, just grabbed a massive pack of DX7 patches and am in FM heaven

The first phase of the fix for the rendering issues under non-default Windows display scaling settings is up. It now lays out properly and is usable for those who couldn't use it before. I'm still working on a second phase of the fix to remedy the associated font sizing issues.
Also made some GUI tweaks that you might find slightly lessens your disgust, for those who expressed their distaste.

Nice one, I think the GUI tweaks you've made are in improvement, definitely reads clearer with the contrast toned down a bit and some of the gradients removed. I think your colour coded system is very functional and I like working with it. It definitely helps on a synth with so many parameters on one screen, which I think is also great as it makes it very tweakable and open to easy experimentation (something I find lacking in other FM synths like say Sytrus, which has a bunch of tabs).

And yet for the - imo - best FM synth they have ever made they pretty much went back to that early concept (and made it far more accessible).fmr wrote:I still cannot understand why people keep following the DX7 paradigm. Even Yamaha had gone beyond that long ago, first with the DX5/DX1 followed by the DX7 II (which layered two FM elements, because clearly, one single FM element was too short), then with the TX816 (which could layer up to eight FM elements), followed by the SY77/TG77/SY99 (more algorithms, more waveforms, up to four FM layers, or combination of FM and PCM layers, interaction with samples), and later with FS1R. Still, programmers seem to think that there is something magical in the DX7

Thanks, gents! I'm very happy that you like the changes.skyscape wrote:Nice one, I think the GUI tweaks you've made are in improvement, definitely reads clearer with the contrast toned down a bit and some of the gradients removed. You definitely understand my design decisions and rationalizations and constraints and I really appreciate that that doesn't go unnoticed. I put a lot of thought and effort into the layout and visual feedback mechanisms. The parts of the colour scheme pertaining to the branding are relatively new so I'm not ashamed to admit that there was room for improvement.
Re: Sytrus - exactly. I find it unbearable to use because of how scrunched it is and how everything is spread across all these different tabs. I'm also put off by how the first patches you audition are drenched in reverb, which led to me making a principled decision to leave the reverb off of my included presets.

Awesome. Thanks.
(To readers: Clicks were probably from voice-stealing due to limited voices in demo mode. Either that or one of the previous builds was glitched.)

New version up: This includes a 32-bit release, the remaining fix for the issues with non-default Windows scaling settings, and two new improvements to the monophonic mode.

My pleasure! Please make sure it works properly ;-P
(I need to handle some assembly routines differently between the two versions, that's why providing the 32-bit version wasn't totally trivial... but it's all set up for subsequent parallel releases without issue from here on in.)
