If you had as little grunt in your computer as my PC, you would want to resample.
Ah Spliff some more advise, it may be a good idea to get a sense of humour, cos if you last more than 2 posts you'll see a lot of it around here. Your initial post wasn't the positive after all.

Resample... Perhaps because you produced at 96khz and now want to downsample to cd-audio standard. Or because you own a crap soundcard thats locked at 48khz in ASIO. Is this the kind of answer you are looking for?

Nah, I think recycled/received soundbites are the lowest form of wit myself.spliff wrote:I can't be arsed with uncalled for sarcasm. it is, after all, the lowest form of wit.
As for resampling, it's often a compatibility issue. Not all devices can play back all sample rates. It also sounds nicer to work in 96 KHz and then resample your audio to 44.1 KHz for burning on to CD (allegedly). I can't tell much difference myself.

spliff, the problem is your question is simple in the same way as the question "How long is a piece of string?" is a simple question.spliff wrote:all i wanted was an answer to a simple question, I can't be arsed with uncalled for sarcasm. it is, after all, the lowest form of wit.
The answer depends on a lot of things, and you didn't specify any details to narrow things down to a manageable size. I'm not being sarcastic toward you, I'm just trying to help you ask a better question.

I guess its a case of needing to know the right question then. Forgive my ignorance in this but theres this button that says resample, I didn't know what it would be used for so I asked. Had I known it would require multiple levels of subquestions I would probably have prefered to remain ignorant but now you've got me intrigued.

Hi Spliff,
What type of equipment is this "resample button" located on?
What purposes are you generally using this equipment for?
Do you need to preserve the highest amount of quality possible?
Do you need to conserve the most amount of space possible?
For example, did you record some digital audio at a sample rate other than 44.1 kHz, and now want to put it on an audio CD?
Let everyone know what sort of gear you are working with, what you are really trying to do with it, and what sort of quality levels you need in your end product. So far, you still haven't told us enough.
I'll let someone else take over from here.
take care,
McLilith

For a man called spliff you don't seem very laid back. Do you actually smoke dope? If you do you might want to source a new dealerspliff wrote:I guess its a case of needing to know the right question then.
