Yes but not in that order :P

If you have a spare drive that may be easier than burning a CD(depending on the state of you OS)

but yes the idea is to copy everything you want to somewhere else, then format the drive and reinstall everything.

The easiestway is letting Windows handle things.
It's really no biggie. I had to reinstall several times the past few months (don't ask) and I think it's really the easiest part of the whole installation procedure.
As for backup: Do you have room for a second drive on your system? Might be the solution. Drives come cheap these days.

I got a Maxtor 80 GB drive for €70 the other day.
Nice little drive. Built it into an G4 AGP, no problems. Set it to "slave" (instructions are on the top of the drive). Just plug it into the IDE-cable, you should have an extra plug there.

Never hurts if you have the time!

However, if you're talking about Sonar 2.2, there is definitely a problem with Sonar 2.x and versions of DirectX. For example, all my machines have Windows XP with DirectX 9b and I can happily install Sonar 1 and Sonar 3, but Sonar 2 just won't do it. It seems to want some earlier version of things.

The best answer, I would think, is to upgrade to Sonar 3. It is probably cheaper than switching to some other sequencer and definitely easier than relearning a whole new way of doing things. I'm really quite happy with Sonar 3, so much so that I'm not sure why I would want to upgrade to 4!

One error message and you're gonna switch sequencers?

Either you don't have any money invested in it (wink, wink) or you're a spoiled billionaire (which I'd have a problem believing since you're almost 2 versions behind).

Here's what you should do:

Uninstall Sonar.
Download RegCleaner (do a search on this forum for the link - I posted it a few months back).
Run Regcleaner (per the instructions I posted before).
Reinstall Sonar.

That should get you going.

Not necessarily so with the Sonar 2.2/DX9 issue. All you have to do is run the DirectX patch(available on the Cakewalk site)before you install Sonar.
