I am thinking of taking the risk of ilok and other stuff for loom2 .Is it worth it or should I get razor(is kinda different and I think it will be more cpu heavy).Or do u you have any suggestions on any additive heavy synth.

Btw does air provide updates for loom now

My subjective opinion is no.
I was given a copy of the software, and I've never used it. In fact, even if it was free, I probably wouldn't use it. I don't see what Loom brings to the table, and more importantly, it sounds thin and uninteresting to my ears.
I use Synthmaster for my additive needs.

For names, look at

In the list, I would say some of the most appreciated are Alchemy, Harmor and NI Razor. I have used none of them, but I found the sound of Razor pretty good.

Maybe it’s your monitors that make it sound thin?
It sounds pretty lush in a tuned studio.
Shame it’s AIR and they don’t stick to promises.
If you decide to go iLok you’ll be able to use some of the best effects and instruments currently available, I think it’s worth it, plus I can take my licenses on my iLok and work in any studio, any where.
For me, the pro’s out way the negatives. Good luck with your decision.

Maybe, but other synths don't sound thin like Loom. As for the effects, I've had many of their FX too. Although not bad, imho they aren't any better than many FX chains on the market (I'll take ToneBoosters over Air any day), and their user interface is now too small for many screens. The only advantage I've seen of Air is the simplicity of their FX and the sheer number of them.

I think they use ilok online for their stuff verification.and I am more into cinematics and bass (dubate kinda)oriented stuff...May be sometimes synthwave stuff.(forgot to mention it in previous post)and dose it still provide updates??For the new stuff coming out.like 4k screen scaling or mpe

I don't get this frequent complaint about "thin"-sounding synths. Thin basically means a weak fundamental, right? So give it more fundamental. Thin is better at fitting into a busy mix anyway, I don't want every sound to be bassy. We see these ads and keen reviews for synths and effects that will "cut through the mix". That isn't really what mixing is about either...

Anyhow, my take on Loom vs Razor as I have both: (Not Loom 2, but that's more of a Loom 1.02 anyway so still a fair comparison). Razor has a much nicer workflow than Loom; you can easily see what the modulation is doing and the layout is familiar with dedicated oscillators -> modifiers -> effects and clear handles for modulation. However, the actual options for each section get you away from typical VA/wavetable territory quickly with some fun and useful modules.

Loom is more flexible, and its non-re-orderable blocks make that irritting to work with. Nonetheless, it is arguably the more powerful option. You have a more direct and less abstract view of what your changes are doing to the partials. The sample import features are neat and can make for cool vocodery things - I used it for the background "talky" part that opens this song and runs throughout most of it. Actual vocoding is available in both synths.

I like Loom. Though I have V1 but still. Someone complaining about "thin sound" just should learn their stuff better.

Comparing to Razor? Well I use Loom to pads/atmosphere/FX and Razor is more pointed to aggressive leads/bass layers/stabs etc. At least in my usage.

it sounds thin and uninteresting to my ears.
Recently made another track using mostly Loom and its presets as a starting point. I agree that additive synthesis may sound harsh out-of-the box, but good chorus helps immensely. As well as overdrive nad general good mixing.

Loom is not intended for production newbies who seek copy-paste sounds. But once you know what you're doing, it's sound palette is amazing - additive blips, inharmonic leads and fake "modal" synthesis.

The sound is an advantage for me, the problem is terrible GUI design and workflow.

What randomness?

Try to increase "start" in "spectral distorion" and "modulation" modules. If they affect low partials, things may get out of control.

i am talking about different sound being generated every time i press a note i think it has to do with phase of the harmonics.

In init patch? You may have spectral distortion or modulation on like Warmonger said. Or some module that does that.. But in basic init saw patch there shouldn't be any randomness.

Best sounding additive imho
