DUNE 3 is now available!!

Well my gear lust ended up winning, and I purchased Dune 3 despite my initial reservations. I decided it was the main synth I use and I should support the developer so that there will be future versions. Plus my only complaint with Dune 2 was the filters.
After quite a bit of more in depth use I'm a bit more impressed than I was before. Overall I've been happy with the following:
1. The new GUI. It looks great and it scales nicely to my 5k monitor. I never liked Dune 2s GUI or included skins, but the satyatunes.com skins made it look great before that. I can't wait for more skins from Satya.
2. The filters. They're amazing sounding and fix one of my major issues with Dune 2. I wish there were new analog modeled high pass filters though.
3. The dual filters. I thought this was so useless, but after using it for a bit I decided I was very wrong. It feels like a missing piece to creating a lot of sounds. I can easily get the exact sound I want now.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase.
I have played with the wavetable stuff a bit, but I'm not really getting it. I mean I understand HOW it works (I think), but how do people come up with different wavetables? Do they just go in and click randomly until they find something they like or what? To me it seems so limitless that it inhibits me. Maybe that will change with more use.
Are you guys able to just imagine a sound in your head and then draw out a nice little set of wavetables that represents it?
Finally one thing I love is the new undo in Dune 3. I wish it was more instantly accessible for Bitwig (instead of hidden under the menu). While using FLStudio it doesn't matter because it recognizes when you use the undo command.

For wavetable production I use equations/formulae that are mostly related to different forms of synthesis. For instance the following allows you to do Yamaha styles 2op FM synthesis:
sin(f1*pi*x+y*sin(f2*pi*x))
Create an empty wavetable with as many slots as possible (up to 256). Copy and paste in the above equation. Replace the f1 and f2 by your desired harmonic integers. Leave y as is. This will generate a whole wavetable. Use an envelope to modulate wavetable position. I usually use velocity to modulate how much envelope is applied.
We can extend this equation to add some feedback. I'll not explain how it works, but it does
sin(f1*pi*x+y*sin(f2*pi*x)/(1-fb*cos(f2*pi*x)))
fb should be a value between 0 and 1.
Note that f2 appears twice. This is for classical sawtooth generating feedback. If you change the f2 in the cos term to 2*f2 you will get Yamaha Reface DX style square wave feedback. You don't have to stop there

The only thing which really is a bit letdown is still that Dune 3 has such a range limit, especially on the higher end. But a workaround is at least to use something like the 32harmonics wavetable.
But i wonder why there is such a limited range in the low and high (a lot synths goes 2 or more octaves higher and lower). I guess it must have something to do with the cpu/modulation at audio rate etc.?
Also in the mod-matrix i can´t "expand" a modulation range further which i can do with some other synths via const as source and a mod-slot as target.

F.e. some synths having a range of 10 octaves (or more). Use a default saw f.e. and turn the semi all up. Now try how far you can go. There is a limit where the frequency doesn´t go higher where other synths go into the inaudible highs. Same is for the low range. I mean it might not useful for most people and for the low end i don´t care so much (but can be useful if using an OSC as LFO). But especially in the high end it doesn´t let me do some things i can do with other synths.
F.e. The Legend has a much wider range here. I don´t talk about the transpose i mean the general frequency range and modulation range the synth can achieve.
However, there are maybe a few workarounds and otherwise i must say that the complete package of Dune 3 is the best i heard yet today (not counting hybrid synths here with sample import).
