Valhalla Delay released

I just tried XLN Audio Retro Color vs ValhallaDelay in terms of getting that classic tape sound and ValhallaDelay sounds amazing.
It seems like I can't isolate that effect with ValhallaDelay, not possible to use ValhallaDelay simply as a tape saturation.

Not sure why you would say that.Architeuthis wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 4:11 am I just tried XLN Audio Retro Color vs ValhallaDelay in terms of getting that classic tape sound and ValhallaDelay sounds amazing.

What I've been using:
Tape Echo
Past
Mix:100%
Delay time minimum 10ms.
Then you can dial up age, drive and wow to whatever you'd like.
It introduces some latency, sure, but not that much.

Can set the Delay Time to 0.0ms now, so should only be same latency as every other plugin.
Clean Tape emulation preset, adjust to taste:
<ValhallaDelay pluginVersion="1.0.6" presetName="Clean Tape" Mix="1" DelayStyle="0" DelayLSync="0.25" DelayLNote="0.20000000298023223877" DelayL_Ms="0" DelayRSync="0.25" DelayRNote="0.20000000298023223877" DelayR_Ms="0.30000001192092895508" DelaySpread="0.5" DelaySpacing="0.5" DelayRatio="0.61414140462875366211" RepeatSwell="1" TapA="1" TapB="1" TapC="1" TapD="1" Feedback="0" Width="1" DriveIn="0" Age="0" Diffusion="0" DiffSize="1" LowCut="0" HighCut="1" ModRate="0.27383410930633544922" ModDepth="0.5" Wow="0" Flutter="0" FreqShift="0.5" FreqDetune="0.57999998331069946289" PitchShift="0.5" PitchDetune="0.5" Mode="0.041666667908430099487" Era="1" Reserved1="0" Reserved2="0" Reserved3="0" Reserved4="0"/>

Vortifex, so he used a physical tape machine? No idea what a "Portastudio-style tape machine is"

You can turn any 3 head real to real tape machine into a tape delay via some trickery. I'm assuming that's the approach they attempted to capture in the Hi-Fi mode. ...but not as a tape delay unit, the Revox B77 tape machine (for instance) might be an interesting option for an emulation if it might be the purpose me thinks...

10ms is about the time it takes sound to go 9ft. I’m playing piano through it live without any perceptible issue. Anything that adds wow and flutter (like retro color) will have to do likewise.
