I have a VSTi (emulator X) that doesn't function in certain hosts because of buffer differences. It works in cubasis and some others. Would I be able to use this VSTi as a plugin in a compatible host, then use that host as a plugin in another host(through VST) to make this VSTi work in the otherwise incompatible host? Like can I bring up Emulator X in cubasis, then bring up that cubasis in orion or FL to operate emulator X within that host?

I don't know if EmuX works in energyXT, but you could try'n dl the demo - if so, it does the trick for you, as you can load energyXT as a vsti and operate it the same way as the standalone-version, which is a vst/vsti-host and much much more:

there aren't a lot of hosts that can also be a client (via VST, DXI, or ReWire). Here's a few that may work for you:

FLStudio - the FruityLoops or Producer edition can sit inside another host, as well as host. It can do standalone, VSTI, DXI, and ReWire (host and client).

EnergyXT - can host VSTI, and can operate standalone or as a VSTI. It can also wrap VSTI that don't cooperate with some hosts (Logic 5.51, for example).

Console - can host VSTI and DXI, and can operate as a VSTI or a DXI.

Project 5 - this can host VSTI or DXI, and can talk ReWire client to other hosts as well.

Chainer - hasn't been updated for a while, but can run standalone or as a VSTI, can host VSTI.

I have EnergyXT and FLStudio, and I'm happy with both of them.

so when i bring one host into another via rewire, can i operate a VSTi within that rewired host just as if it was standing alone?

Re-wire's a different ball of wax.

Using the term 'host' so many times has confused me. ;) An app that is rewired or is loaded into another host is no longer a 'host' even if it has the capacity to function as one...

er...

unless it's hosting something before itself being hosted. <laff>

Well, then...

Which apps, specifically are you using, and do you actually want one to be HOSTED inside another, or will it be rewired. Rewiring IS a form of hosting, so I don't mean to split hairs, I just think that the original people responding were thinking non-rewire.

Why not raise the issue with the manufacturer of EmulatorX so they can fix it? Seems VERY inconvenient to me that this VSTi doesn't respect the protocols... Or is there more to it?
