My dongle is broken for Cubase SX - anybody know what the score is for getting a replacement, I have looked at the website and there does not appear to be anyting on there about it.
Also, if I upgraded to the latest version of SX would I get a new dongle or would I be expected to continue using the dongle I recieved with SX.

When I upgraded from SX1 to SX2.2 I got a new dongle, but the salesguy has to "sight" my old dongle. He looked at it and said "Yes, that's a Cubase dongle". He didn't plug it in to test it or anything.
I don't think you can buy a replacement dongle. The dongle is your license, so to get a new dongle, you probably have to buy Cubase again.
Forever,
Kim.

Call the 800 number...I'm sure there's a way to ship it to them at your own expense and get it replaced for a small fee...just a pain to wait for...Since I abandoned SX after version 1, I've got a dongle right here, but I may need it when the mothership arrives as part of my ID to get off this planet...baggio wrote:My dongle is broken for Cubase SX - anybody know what the score is for getting a replacement, I have looked at the website and there does not appear to be anyting on there about it.

Well magazine I just read seems to suggest that you get a new dongle with Cubase SX 3 upgrade which may be a solution as I never bothered with witht he upgrade to SX2 it may be time to upgrade now.
If anyone can confirm that you get a new dongle with the Cubase 3 upgrade I would be grateful.

Firstly you Don't get a new Dongle with the SX 3 upgrade , i know as ive upgraded....baggio wrote:My dongle is broken for Cubase SX - anybody know what the score is for getting a replacement, I have looked at the website and there does not appear to be anyting on there about it.

Also i tried to get an extra Dongle off steinberg the other day as i wanted to run cubase on my laptop also but didn't want to swap my dongle between desktop to laptop all the time , so i rang sales and they told me i can't have another dongle as the dongle is my license if i want another Dongle then i must buy another copy of cubase....
Ive gave this a lot of thought over the last few days and im so pissed off with steinberg that im currently testing the sonar 4 demo and if it happens to agree with me then im gonna binn cubase forever and live a 'DONGLE FREE LIFE'

I ouwld have thought as a licensed owner of Cubase I would be able to get a new dongle if the old one is broke even if requires sending back the old one for them check - oh well I guess I can email to arbiter on Monday to find out. Although all this business with a dongle has made me think that I should just update my Sonar 3 to 4 and live dongle free, especially as my Reaktor 3 dongle also broke as well - luckily I was on Reaktor 4 by that point.
Hello Cane - long time no speak, glad you are stilll liking 'For You', it seems like such a long time ago since I wrote that. Certainly my software specs have increased a hell of a lot since the days of trying to get decent sounds out of free SF2 etc.

Pretty sure you don't get a new dongle with the upgrade (the dongle you already have is upgraded by downloading software from the Syncrosoft site), but also pretty sure you can get a replacement one. Personally I wouldn't trust my dongle in the post - you can't be 100% sure it'll get there, and if it gets there then not lost in the system, or lost on the way out.
Go through a local dealer - they should know the score. If you get them to sort it out (probably for a fee no doubt) they can give you a receipt for the dongle which you can use if the worst happens and it gets lost - it means you'd have proof that a) you had a dongle, and b) that you handed it in - none of which you'd have if you just posted it direct to Steinberg yourself. Also, Steinberg probably won't have any problems sending out replacements to known and approved dealers rather than to individuals.

you can't unless you return defective one. been told this by distibutor's representative here. in addition i've been told some pretty weird stories about replacement procedures (i.e. *lost* dongles). which can or can't be true.
