Why would you assume I haven't read the whole thread? I have indeed read every word. It is based on everything you've said thus far (and every response to it) that I made my comments. It amuses me to see fully grown behaving in a manner that would embarrass even my most immature friends (and I'm only 20 btw).TonyVanDam wrote: 2) You can take you dollar and go back to the strip clubs and mind you own business because you don't know the whole story and I bore with telling people to go back to page 2 of this thread.
edit: so do carry on...

Anyone else wants to battle me in a war of words, please stay tune. I'll be back later night (CST) to finish this topic (that was suppose to be about Ashlee Simpson) ASAP.

Sorry Tony... I just can't (and won't) say anything else. Just so much: PLEASE get a clue!
I really feel sorry for you because with this sort of mental state you defenitely won't make it much far. You may be a nice guy and all, but you certainly don't know how to express it.
I might be an asshole, but at least I know how to be one.
And now let's just finish this, it's making less than no sense.

Tony has agreed it was the wrong choice of word about 10 times over. I think it's fair to challenge people about these issues at the time but when someone acknowledges the point then isn't it time to move on?
I agree Tony that if someone insults you then it's your right to insult them back. But in my experience if you descend to their level of trading insults it just ends up in a spiral of insults and the point of the discussion is lost.
You raised how there was a contrast between the treatment of Milli Vanilli and Ashlee Simpson. I think it's fair to say that black musicians have had a raw deal and continue to get side-lined in certain genres of music. But I also think that the reason MV got such a hard time from the media and the establishment is because they gave MV a Grammy.
When MV were exposed it made all those big guns in the music establishment look like fools and they manipulated the media to get revenge. MV had the two black front men but the whole MV team were made up of black and white musicians and producers. They all colluded in this deception in order to sell records and make money.
It's a tradegy that in the music business it takes goodlooking people (in MV's case two handsome black guys who couldn't sing) in order to sell records while the not so goodlooking (black) singers are forced to hide in the background. I'm sure there are many black and white men and women who have voices like angels but because they don't look like Ashlee S or the MV guys we may never hear their voices. Or if we do they will be hidden behind an acceptable public face.
Why we tolerate the body facism of the media is a whole different issue but I think it has now led to the Milli Vanilli and Ashlee Simpson way of promoting and selling records becoming the norm. I suppose the most obvious reason is that we enjoy and admire beauty. But who decides what is beautiful? Not all its forms are celebrated.
I've got The Nau Ensemble Chamber Orchestras version of Joy Divisions The Eternal. It's an excellent a moving interpretation of Joy Divisions music. In the sleeve notes they quote W Somerset Maugham who wrote: 'the ideal has many names, and beauty is but one of them.' Is this an idea that has been destroyed by the media and the scramble for profit or does it still exist?
The whole lip-syncing issue opens a can of worms that touches on racism, sexism and the way we are manipulated in order to sell records.

Another thought struck me (duck!) if the musicians who came up in the 60's like Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Ray Davies (The Kinks), Tina Turner, Pete Townshend (The Who) were trying to make it today would they succeed? Somehow I doubt it because they don't fit into the so-called 'beauty ideal' that is pushed today like some kind of drug.
Long live average looking musicians because they often hold the keys to creativity while the beautiful people are just window dressing. Thank god I'm not handsome cos then I may find hidden depths of talent (still looking!)

11 pages? come on all.. its just someone mimicing singing words to a recording..
I dont think its the story of the century or anything..
I know MAD tv has made all kinds of jokes about ashlee simpson in the past.. one of the more prominent ones was the autotune and lipsyncing bits..
I think the largest difference between MV and AS is that.. MV didnt seem sing at all.. AS seems to.. at least in the recording booth with some auto..
hey.. a guy wants into a subshop and orders a sandwich.. he says.. 'give me the ham on white with lettuce tomato and mayo.' then the guy pays for the sandwich and leaves with it in hand.
but the sandwich had white bread so thats really the 'white man' looking down on everyone else and the lettuce tomato and mayonaise represent the oppression of many people.. and the ham represents how rich and abundant the 'white mans' lifestyle is..
I think you can make anything racist, sexist, or anything -ist if you try hard enough.. somethings just arent there though unless you want them to be there.

I was just pointing this out on another board. It's not like this hasn't been going on since the advent of broadcast television. Top of the Pops, American Bandstand, et cetera.nuffink wrote:This is quite big on the US news sites. They obviously never grew up with top of the pops.

1 - I like cheese spread
2 - Tuna fish don't where pyjamas (Too heavy when wet, they weigh tem down)
3 - Ride on Time was produced by chopping up Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation', not Martha Wash.
4 - This thread is one of the biggest load of bollocks I've seen yet on KVR.
One of these statements is false.......
......of course. I hate cheese spread!!!
For what it's worth, if Ashlee, Britney, Kylie, Janet or who ever want to lip sync. Fine by me. They entertain me with their performance. You try singing in key for 50 minutes while bouncing around a stage like a gazelle on acid.
Stick a comedian on a treadmill to do his routine and see if he's still as funny?
I think everyone should shut up now really, after all how can you follow Peter Beardsley?

Well, Bill Murray did a great bit in Lost in Translation on one of those elliptical thingies. But he had an opportunity to do multiple takes.2windy wrote:Stick a comedian on a treadmill to do his routine and see if he's still as funny?
