I tried the demo of Kaleidoscope way back but didn’t have enough time to really explore it. Didn’t realize there was a connection (presets for Metasynth).
Hooray: Metasynth is coming for Windows

The hope is still alive.

Yes, the Windows version is still on the radar. Initial funding was spent to start development with a Windows developer, then the rest of the funding fell through. With the death of Carbon MacOS X, the priority became recreating the app for Apple's Cocoa platform first. Reprogramming a Carbon MacOS X app in Cocoa MacOS+iOS has been far trickier than sold, Apple's paid developer support has been unresponsive in most cases, and... you get the idea. We'll be exploring new funding options soon. - Kevin

Your priorities are wrong once again, IMO.U&I Software wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 3:46 am Yes, the Windows version is still on the radar. Considering the bad experience you suffered with Apple, and the fact that many of the existing users (myself included) are smart enough to not move to the latest version of the OS, and therefore are still able to run the existing Metasynth version (I will NOT pay an upgrade that the only contains compatibility with an OS I don't use), you should have given priority to the Windows version, and then come back to Apple.
I'm afraid you will suffer a big disappointment with the new Mac version.

Carbon had been deprecated for 10 years. And never was 64 bit IIRC. So it's not something that should have surprised people (like Apple using Metal instead of Vulkan). And yes, I know that Metasynth is older than that.

I'm still on Mojave because of a few legacy synths. So I am relieved that MetaSynth is now future-proofed. I think it's smart to satisfy your existing customer base before expanding.

I presume you already bought the upgrade, thenMichael L wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:42 am I'm still on Mojave because of a few legacy synths. So I am relieved that MetaSynth is now future-proofed. I think it's smart to satisfy your existing customer base before expanding.
What about the "existing customers" that are now changing or wanting to change platform?

I'm simply presenting an alternate perspective on priorities. As said above, there is just a delay on Windows.fmr wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:54 pm What about the "existing customers" that are now changing or wanting to change platform?

It will run on Catalina with the changes (that should have been done more than 10 years ago, Apple really changed from Carbon to Cocoa in 2007(?) with the App Store). Big Sur has other problems ...

Alas, that was not an option. Eric is a Mac programmer and as stated above there were no funds to pay a Windows programmer, so porting to Cocoa was the only option available near term to help folks who had changed OS platforms to MacOS+iOS (Catalina/BigSur). Also, we'd want to get all the new features created for the Mac version into the Windows version. We are currently testing 1.1.0 which has new techniques to get Cocoa's screen drawing as fast as Carbon can. At that point, they will be on par plus new features like 16bit images, full-length sequencing, etc...more info on the uisoftware.com website.fmr wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:08 amYour priorities are wrong once again, IMO.U&I Software wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 3:46 am Yes, the Windows version is still on the radar.
