So I was thinking of sampling my Roland Cloud VSTs because I really don't like using the cloud authorization. Especially the 808 and 909. They sound great and I figured I'd capture as much in round robins and tweaks as I could that would work in samplers. And if I did that I'd probably save it as sfz or something like that, maybe some Bitwig and Maschine/Kontakt kits.
So if I did that I'd imagine that others would enjoy the samples so I would share but is that legal? I've never really thought of it before but I'm sure others have asked similar things and shared samples of VST patches. I'm guessing it's fine but is there any restrictions? For example some products out there could be captured quite well, like Mellotrons. But I don' think I've seen people sharing sampled M-Tron patches for example. But it's just a VST and I don't know of issues sharing the samples you have recorded from VSTs.
Thanks

i don't think it's legal, even if you do it for free. what's in the license agreement bout this?
for example spectrasonics omnisphere has this legal restriction :
Are there any legal limitations to how I can use Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments?
The main limitation is that you are not allowed to use them to make a sample library or another kind of sample-based product. You are also restricted from giving away or posting online any loops or samples created using Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments.

Mainly they are synths, but the D50, JV1080, SRX expansions, and XV5080 are sample based. In the past, many tried to release libraries of D50 presets, and they always received a "cease and desist" letter from Roland.vurt wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2020 1:25 pm omni is heavily sample based, i dont know about the cloud? is it samples or synthesis?
So, I guess it will be OK with the real synths, but not those three, as well as the Zenology, etc.

Found this on the Terms of service:
You may not...
...
c. Use the Roland Cloud Service to create sounds or other content for any synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product, musical instrument, music or sound effects created by computers or machines, or any competitive product or service, without the express prior written consent of Roland.
So I assume that includes even samples that are shared for free. Oh well.

Besides that, the exersize is completely futile. Samples are static, instruments are not.
Are you willing to make samples of all knob positions and all velocity and note lengths?

We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
