EVH has finally lost it

What what I've seen and read about him in interviews, EVH is a total tool of a human being. I've also read DLR's and SH's books, and, despite their rivalry with each other, they both seem to confirm that EVH is not a very pleasant guy.
That said, in looking at the recent performance vids, you'd be hard pressed to find a guy his age that looks as healthy and fit. The band is solid--nothing sloppy there--and EVH exudes a quiet stage presence that is both cool and confident. By contrast, DLR, sorry to say, has devolved into self parody. Sloppy, missing cues, and only occasionally meandering back to something reminiscent of a melody in most of the songs. I'm a huge DLR fan, but unfortunately, performance wise, he just has not kept up.

Sounds like he and Kiss' bass player should form a new band

kind of weird that he's saying this stuff when they're either a) on tour or b) soon-to-be on tour. they're going to be at the white river amphitheatre in less than 2 weeks.
anyway, a lot of what they used to do remains brilliant.
at this point i'd say, get a 'semi-tone guitar', and make some indonesian-type music; partly as a tribute to mother.

what is the detuned thing? He used a hipshot for drop D, he did use alternate tunings but that's not detuned.Xiangqi wrote:of, course, eddie has been doing a sort of 'detuned' thing all along, and that's part of the brilliance.
I find it interesting that he uses brass and copper picks, this I never knew. Many here know I sometimes use brass picks that I make myself. I have one that I made in 1982 and I still use it (I have abut 10 total but can make more at any given moment). I dont think it caused his tongue cancer but I can say putting a brass pick in your mouth is nasty. The taste stays with you for hours, I'm sure it's not healthy tbh.

He got his tongue cancer right were he used to have the pick in his mouth. He said he was sure it had to do with the pick. I believe more in his words than your guessing.Hink wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2015 11:32 pmwhat is the detuned thing? well, I have no interest at speculating at this time what caused it...really it hardly seems an appropriate time at all

Interesting to re-read this old thread. We lost a giant and an innovator. He will absolutely be missed!

Great to be back, if only to say hi and “see” old friends. How've you been? I can’t help but regret these posts now. So it goes.
RIP EVH!

That's a very human response blueman.
Not really sure why this thread got necrod and then post deleted.
Anyway, been listening to the great man in action today so his music, without doubt, will live on, which is a beautiful thing.

yeah, i know its a necro thread, but.....
this morning in the news, among the testimonials was the lead singer of Kiss, saying evh was one of the nicest guys he ever met, and never said a bad word about anyone, especially other bands
disclaimer : I know nothing about evh, or the band, apart from that one song...
struck me as odd, because....planetearth wrote: Sat Jun 20, 2015 3:10 am
But Eddie does have a nasty habit of talking bad about everyone he's ever worked with, despite the mess of a human being he himself is.
