depends on what your needs are. pro tools LE doesn't really rank at all with any of the major hosts (i.e. cubase, nuendo, sonar, logic) as far as overall features go. it has a 32 track limit, barebones midi features and a lot of "power user" (i hate that term) features that have been stripped away. i suppose with 6.7 it'll actually be not nearly as limited as previous versions, i think digi is starting to realize that they need to offer something closer to the lines of what HD/TDM users have available to them to compete in a native market, but it's still very limited compared to a full-featured host like Sonar 4.reprznt wrote:how does Pro Tools Le compare to Sonar or Cubase SX?
I currently use FL Studio but was wondering what is so good about pro tools????
I make hip hop music and always hear how good pro tools is, however, it is so expensive and needs the hardware.
how does Le rank compared to the other major hosts?
however, if you are doing a lot of audio editing/recording/arranging, pro tools work pretty smoothly. it has some of the best/simplest audio editing available and it's pretty streamlined as far as starting a new song/session and getting it up and running on the spot. it's really, in a lot of ways, software designed from an engineering standpoint, where it's not meant to be this platform for composition and creation of ideas, but more for an engineer to sit down and be able to just get straight to making a solid mix.
like everything else, it really depends on your uses and needs, your mileage will vary. i honestly really do like pro tools software for mixing with, i just can't stand the LE hardware. very cheaply made, poor quality converters and preamps (with exception to the mbox and it's focusrite pre's). the 002/002rack have a very cheap vibe to them with their plastic construction, and seem much more like toys than professional audio hardware. although, with v6.7 being so much more full featured, the price of admission for pro tools is looking a little more reasonable... still in the end, you're going to pay quite a bit more for a smaller variety of plugins that don't necessarily sound as good as many VST/AU on the market made by smaller devs.
