I'm curious if there's anything else in the box other than the dongle. If not, seems like a waste. They could just send the dongle and email the installer download info.

The box has a dongle + a card with serial number.flugel45 wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 9:15 pm I'm curious if there's anything else in the box other than the dongle. If not, seems like a waste. They could just send the dongle and email the installer download info.
How would buying a box differ from "sending the dongle" though? It's not a huge box. It's smaller than a CD case, but 2-3x thicker.

Yeah, not a huge deal, but I'm old enough to remember when the box included install DVDs the dongle, AND a manual... Just seems inefficient to me when that same box is now being used to send basically just the dongle -- and oh yeah, a card with a serial number on it.antic604 wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 10:24 pm ...How would buying a box differ from "sending the dongle" though? I'm just saying, no special CUBASE UPGRADE! box needed: Send the retail dongle, and email the serial number (More secure that way anyway).

Unfortunately, you cannot (I mean, you can, but you just wont be able to use it until you get a USB licenser). AI utilizes a software license, while Pro requires hardware. Not ideal, but it is what it is.

It's not only Cubase. You can buy boxed NI Komplete update with just serial number inside. Because I made mistake, I ordered the box but seller sent me serial number because the last thing I need is more useless paper/plastic which will go directly to the bin.flugel45 wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:24 amYeah, not a huge deal, but I'm old enough to remember when the box included install DVDs the dongle, AND a manual... Also, for video games it's a standard now. You're buying box looking like it has DVD / BR inside but there's only code. In the age where everybody is so loud and conscious about environment issues, making plastic boxes with just serial number is the most idiotic thing companies can do these days.

I still have nice colourful Ableton 8 box on my desk - just for decoration.
However, might need to throw it out as it's useless and only takes space when moving house
