Hi All!
Just watching the first Star Wars movie I've watched in years. Seen the 3 original and the 3 more modern prequels but not seen these new Disney sequels. Just watching Episode 7- The Force Awakens.
At the beginning, when the writing comes up, at the very start, the words Star Wars explodes onto the screen and the music blasts in (or not in this case). I instantly heard it, it felt weak. It lacked something. I rewound it and listened again and I was right, at the very start as Star Wars blasts / zooms out on the screen the music blasts in but I distinctly remember it being better. It had more oomph.
I pause the movie and take to You Tube and find the theme tune. I was right, the original blasts in with a crash cymbal which this one didn't have and a deep trumpet or trombone as well. It plays into a feeling I've had for ujthe past few years, everything music related is getting worse. It's dwindling. What's going on? are people's standards not as high? maybe it was copyright thing?
The original themetune:-
The Force Awakens one:-
Thanks!

look man, these movies, like the marvel movies, and most recent movies, were made by computer. because, it was cheap and easy to spit out these computer generated content that people would watch and listen to. do you blame them? it's a business. what we are missing is well made timeless pieces like the dark knight series (probably the last great films). Disney is subject to protest, and their goal is to offend no one, and everyone is offended. Disney is in trouble, but not done. they have very creative people working for them, they just have to get over their fear of offending every one. they need to get back to making classics, and away from making content.

From someone who’s actually worked on things like this, I assure you that you have no idea what you’re talking about.Dasheesh wrote: Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:22 pm look man, these movies, like the marvel movies, and most recent movies, were made by computer. because, it was cheap and easy to spit out these computer generated content that people would watch and listen to. do you blame them? it's a business. what we are missing is well made timeless pieces like the dark knight series (probably the last great films). you're saying they're made by 'committee' to a formula to please the most fans possible?Dasheesh wrote: Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:22 pm these movies, like the marvel movies, and most recent movies, were made by computer. because, it was cheap and easy to spit out these computer generated content that people would watch and listen to. ... their goal is to offend no one ...
I think 'the last jedi' blows that theory away, they gave complete creative control to someone who very much did their own thing regardless of what people wanted (to some success I'd add).

I encourage anyone who has some rosey idea of ep. 4-6 to watch the entire series in the order that they were released. (You can skip 1-3, though arguably they are the episodes where Lucas had the most creative control) You like 4-6 because you were a kid when they came out. They’re just as problematic as 7-9 but with worse acting. I love Star Wars as much as anyone (saw ep. 4 in the theater and again in a drive-in where I saw a cut that included a trip to Mos Eisley that wasn’t in the main release (I’m told this is impossible, but I always wondered why those scenes got cut from cable and DVD releases) but I’m self aware enough to know that none of these films are perfect. They’re fun popcorn movies. I think the story of Rey and Kylo is actually some of the best storytelling in the entire Star Wars canon, and if you think a film like that is easy because “it’s on a computer,” you have no idea what you are talking about.

a lifelong star wars fan myself, my earliest memories are queuing for the film's at the old one screen cinema here.
but that's why we loved them, they were space fantasy and we still dreamed.

i cannot navigate these quotes on a phone rn, but i can tell you that my earliest memories of hearing the starwars 70's album blasted at me while i was in the bathtub, and my dad peaking around the corner at me. and it is still in my brain archive rn at near 50.vurt wrote: Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:54 pmzerocrossing wrote: Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:48 pm I encourage anyone who has some rosey idea of ep. 4-6 to watch the entire series in the order that they were released. it's a similar argument to the old "oh you use a synth/drum machine, so you just press a key and the machine dues the rest? yeah?"whyterabbyt wrote: Mon Feb 22, 2021 5:13 pmThe CGI and VFX industry thanks you for your complete and utter ignorance.Dasheesh wrote: Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:22 pm look man, these movies, like the marvel movies, and most recent movies, were made by computer. because, it was cheap and easy to spit out these computer generated content
