Ah..Ye Olde "Maximizing Shareholder Value". Good for customers? Time will tell. I hope for the best.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

I only hope it's something like rent to own... if stopping payment means not being able to use what got so far (like Adobe) I'm certainly out.

tangent.. affinity photo and designer are excellent and very affordable. i picked them up last year when they had a 50% off sale so a total bargain. they're really good and no adobe cloud to deal with eithermabian wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:55 pm I only hope it's something like rent to own... if stopping payment means not being able to use what got so far (like Adobe) I'm certainly out.

if NI and izotope go the way of adobe that'll really suck. i use neutron advanced for mixing and it's really fast and convenient. i would miss many NI things. can't imagine the shit storm that would happen if they decided to go subscription only. it would wreck a lot of things.. all the blocks and reaktor 3rd party stuff etc.

also, izotope is already doing this kind of thing.. maybe they're just going to roll in some NI stuff to their 'membership' thing.

Yes I got Affinity suite last year too. Amazing value, all three products for around 80€. A steal.dayjob wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 10:32 pmtangent.. affinity photo and designer are excellent and very affordable. i picked them up last year when they had a 50% off sale so a total bargain. they're really good and no adobe cloud to deal with eithermabian wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:55 pm I only hope it's something like rent to own... if stopping payment means not being able to use what got so far (like Adobe) I'm certainly out.

Izotope's interfaces have from my perspective gotten worse and worse as the years have rolled by.
I still use Ozone 4 and know it's bugs, but it's usable.
Likewise Nectar 2 and Alloy 2 are very solid products.
NI is a giant that lives on Kontakt and Komplete, and it's very much the older, slower brother of the two.

Something I understood few years ago, on my endless search for inspiration and the best vst for it, it does not need all this high tech computer, software, AI stuff to make people feel good with your
music.
The most impressiv and touching pices of music have been made realy simple and with lots of message and feelings in it.
So, in my op. this companys just release the same stuff over the years, again and again in a little different way but basicly it all remains the same.
At the end, they just join together to survive the fact, that they have nothing new to bring to the volks.
Just my feeling:)
(Sorry for my bad english)

For NI, I only use Razor and Rounds, along with a few Kontakt player instruments. If they decided to go subscription only I would have no hesitation in dropping them like they’re hot.
Izotope otoh is a different matter. I love the reverbs and RX is unmatched. I use it more than almost any other piece of software. However, as I’m not a pro I can’t justify a subscription. That would suck to replace.
