what applications can play .gig files? I mean, any appart from gigastudio? Because the group buy for postpianos really interests me but I don´t own any sampler yet. Just Samplitude...
SFZ does not seem to play it.

You could try Synthfont . Apparently it plays Giga... Although I never figured out how (sfz+ is better anyway
).

would there be disadvantages in just ripping it to wav with cdex, or what the programme is called? An then playing them? Is there "extrainfo" in the gig files that wav wouldn´t have?

You'll lose the sustain pedal keyswitching if you convert to SF2. Of course you could rig sfz up with a low latency convolution plugin (Revolverb or Pristine Space) automated via the sustain pedal if you were sneaky... There should be impulses provided with the samples

Extreme Sample Converter ($50) will convert from .gig to sfz. Don’t know how well it works but there’s a demo at the website:

SFZ+ can play gig files if you have special version of the app provided by Rene. Unfortunately he is not willing to extend his offer to new customers.
cheers
