cooperation vs isolation - your thoughts

I have a lot of - let´s say - work lying around here and thought about it. And then I started to clean up and look through some files, stumbeled over this book and found this quote. Don´t want to say more for now than that I think similar.
"Everything you want (outside of your personal spiritual growth) is going to require relationships. You simply can't stay locked out from the world, making great music, and expect that to be enough. You are going to have to interact, communicate and share your value in trade for the value of others (Timothy Jason - Music Habits The Mental Game)."
Your thoughts, your experiences?

I never could find the key to unlock that world.

I was most productive working with someone else ... I think it was having someone else to validate and improve my ideas, and vica-versa. A bit of enthusiasm can go a long way. What can be an issue is if one of the duo is more serious about the music than the other. It's great when you click with someone else musically and get on well ... I tend to procastinate left to my own devices.

being in kvr itself, typing stuff, is not being an isolationist, right?
you can't evolve properly as an isolationist?
on the other hand, i wish that guy who likes to ride horses shirtless is a total isolationist. but noooooo. he's just a total something.

You mean your room? So I guess you have learned to do it all on yourself? How does it work and what do you think abour it? Do you miss something or do you see advantages?

Ahm I wouldn´t want to dicuss to general here. I mean it´d be about the question if you really can work "isolated" in modern societys. I´d say no - because you couldn´t work if there wouldn´t be others who enable you.harryupbabble wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 5:22 pm being in kvr itself, typing stuff, is not being an isolationist, right?

Isolation is more like sitting in your bedroom pressing keys and turning knobs. And cooperation is interaction with other human beeings, even if it´s a remote cooperation.

People report about that frequently. I´d also think of inspiration. And for shure that focus that you mention - you can´t just fiddle around for hpours when someone else sits besides you.thecontrolcentre wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 1:43 am I was most productive working with someone else ... But - despite of Corona - hasn´t that become pretty difficult with the years? I mean back then I had my peer group with shared interests. But today - I really ask myself if there´s really anybody out there who really shares my interests. We have so many styles, techniques and sub-genres today. And so many different tools.
I frequently feel that it´d be better to team up with some people who have other abilities and experiences. But on the other hand I usually think about that when I´m "down in a valley, having a steep learning curve infront of me". Others would be a kind of escape and I feel that that is also no basis for a cooperation and to go out and speak to unknown people ("hey I do this but I can´t do that, can you?").
It´s weird. And I definitely work too much. A little bit deflection and inspiration would be great. I don´t even rally find the time to set some proper targets

I recognize that I am part of a society. My music is inspired and influenced, to varying degrees, by other musicians, instrument builders, non-musical arts and entertainment, science, politics, culture as a whole, and so on.
But it's my music. It's a personal project. I like making it myself, I don't really want to collaborate on it, I don't want someone else's feedback on it while I'm in the creative process. (Feedback afterward is neat but mostly optional.)
Sometimes I enjoy playing music with other people, but that's very different. It's mostly just fun, sometimes a wonderful experience, but (depending) it can also be a lot of work and really test my patience. It can never replace the solo project.

I like a duo, I returned to an age-old partnership for a minute last year...
It was exactly as fruitful as I will have been, I was on a roll, but perhaps more interesting than, at least w. a difference.
a whole group, three's a crowd, I have to establish leadership over a project, while that two person deal is... well it's going to sound like me but with a difference. No one is shot-caller.
an odd guest artist can work, because they cooperate.
I'm reminded by the word 'cooperate' in the OP of the trailer of this recent King Crimson doc with Fripp where after some moaning of others about, donno, Fripp's tyranny or somewhat, it cuts to him doing 'the problem lies elsewhere', rather drolly
