i think they are overrated cos theyve been around for so long, but that doesnt mean theyre bad, their stuff sounds good, i love decapitator, microshift and echoboy, you can get their stuff for cheap on sale then upgrade to the bundle for cheap, its not the best stuff out there but it has character, its dark and gritty like ^ said, and warm, but not very smooth and kind of gritty in a way thats halfway between digital and analog, kinda like brainworx but warmer, its one option out of many and i dont regret buying soundtoys, but the alternatives like the uhbik plugins sound much better to my ears

Post

We have a ton of plugins in our studio but we always come back for some of Soundtoys essentials

Post

I use echoboy jr for my delays and decapacitor for parallel processing all the time.

About 30% of plugins in a project usually are Soundtoys. Can not imagine being without Soundtoys

Forever in debt to Soundtoys for PrimalTap, their Lexicon Prime Time emu. No one else does it, and it's great to play with a digital delay from the 70s. Really wish Eventide would do a plugin of the DDL 1745M Delay.

Yeah, I love Primal Tap, as soon as I got it I realized how much the original Prime Time is an integral part of Daniel Lanois' productions.

It would be great to see new stuff from Soundtoys, but I happily use their stuff as-is. FilterFreak is the only ITB filter I've used whose envelope detector responds just like an actual analog stompbox envelope filter on bass and guitar. Little Alter Boy "just works", hugging voices in a convincing-yet-artificial way that no other pitch shifter does. Tremolator and PanMan are considerably more versatile than they first appear.

Honestly SoundToys was the first real fx bundle i bought and I realized quickly I dont want to work with them, to me, its a UI nightmare. And yes there are alot of good alternatives by now.

While I agree that now there are a lot of good options from competitors, I have to say, “UI nightmare” sounds like pure hyperbole to me. Could they use a once over? Sure, but I’ve never found them to be difficult to use. If you want a UI nightmare, have a look at PSP’s N20.

Alright, lets rephrase to "for me". Because its all very black and hard to see (for me), I think when I use them they were not resizeable and some of the layouting confused me on the more complex plugs.

They are never update their plugins. I wouldn't invest my money for Soundtoys.

Their stuff was great back in the day... But since they have just sat on their hands for years now there are better plugins out there. That's not to say they are bad plugins but no longer top-of-the-line as they once were.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

But…they update plugins, they always up to date with present. I got, maybe, 3 or 4 updates during 4 years I owning them. It wasn’t long awaited major updates, but I never met any problems with stability, interface and sound anyway… So, soundtoys plugins are things that just works and just sounds good. I think, here is no space for small tweaks. It’s already on a polished solid level.

Are Soundtoys overrated?
Yes, completely.
No longer relevant.
Just cash cows for company owners who are not able to develop anything interesting for years.
