FL Studio no longer regfile-based

Another one bites the dust, as they say. Appears Image-Line is going challenge-response from here on out, as of FL ver 20.9.2 (though luckily still includes offline activation). To be fair the system could be much worse, and honestly it's kind of amazing IL has maintained the universal-regfile method this long. Still, kinda sad, as this marks the end of FL's status as a semi-portable DAW.

The only difference now is that the Regfile is tied to your Computer so when you create one you can still use it like you did before but only for the computer it is made for.

Sounds like it'll break for Linux/WINE users then 
Machine-based protection generally does, because it sees the new/updated wrapper layer instances as a new computer. It might be possible to avoid if the exact working was documented, but of course this is what they want to avoid.

Image Line seem to be great coders, especially with all their synths and effects, which are arguably better than Logic's. It's just their DAW-design skills that turn me off.
I just wish people would stop using the krackz and just buy the software. One level at a time, if they have to...
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Not sure if you mean this serious...
...but the change of the registration method is actually already a few month old and if it would have been possible it would have been hacked already...

This is not what we are talking about...
A few month ago they brought in a 2 step verification to verify the actual machine you are working on... this was the actual change... not that you were able to unlock the product by logging in inside the app...

FL is probably the most pirated music software in the world, in spite of them offering lifetime free updates and a $99 version (that can be upgraded without penalty). They have the right to protect their software like everyone else.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.

That's a good start! The worry is that WINE updates etc. could look like a "new machine" and deactivate them. If ImageLine are fairly lenient about re-activation it might be ok. You can still activate FL Studio with a regkey, but need to create a activationfile first from FL Studio to get a working regkey.
There is no limit, if WINE decides to update something that blocks the activation, unlock it again with a new regkey or online activation.

Looks like we’re in luck.
