I use LM-7 & VB-1 , mainly cause there just there and they work, but the sounds are not that great. At the moment I'm not interested in sample libraries that are several hundrerd megs large. Any suggestion on what I should try?

trilogy for bass
and dr008, RMiv or Battery for drums.

Also, there's a few free sample based drum modules, such as DR-005, Loopazoid and (maybe the best of them) Majken's Twitch.

Alternatively, you may want to check out RGCaudios free sfz and load some of the TONS of free soundfonts into it for a good start.

I could have been more specific in my first post and said that I was looking for electric bass and acoustic drum kit samples(or sythesized). I'm sorry. Also I was concerned about LM-4 not being the best drum sampler, but maby soundfonts are the way to go anyway and then sfz is the best. I'll check out the stuff you all suggested anyway.

a) why not replace lm7 kits with your own?
b) drumatic 3 is good one for drums
c) iblit, asynth and triangle2 are good for basses
personally i believe you can achieve pretty much pro level output with above stated, at least in audio-for-multimedia field.

What I use mostly myself:

Drums: Drumatic 3
Bass: BB303i or DaHornet
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.
