Too much space for what you get. Something like Omnisphere takes around 55gb and has superior presets, majority of them are usable. Even kontant factory library is more usable. Freeware synths like surge tyrell obxd vital can offer so much more analogue goodness then this even on group sale. I see Syntronik as an illusion of having emulation.
I think the Syntronik products have a lot of good presets. Maybe not as many as IKM advertises with, but still  Lots of them are very usable for me.

Also the quality of the effects is outstanding IMHO, especially the vintage plate reverb. And the cpu usage is very low, opposed to many emulations that use 'real' oscillators. Yes it takes a lot of harddrive space but I'm using an 8TB external drive so no worries there...

Participating in this group buy was a no brainer for me really. 10 for the price of 1 and still counting... :tu:

"Usable" is totally subjective.

Not all the Syntronik instruments are analog.

Anyway to me the value of Syntronik is the fun of making my own combis and presets.

With 16 possible Oscs, 4 possible Filters out of a choice of 7 types (each with variations such as LP,HP,BP,NT,PK, etc), the traditional LFOs, Envs, gigs of content for each Osc (from both digital and analog synths), each Layer with it's own FX rack and it's own Arp/Seq, you begin to see that this is a very capable synth.

Is it the most capable synth ? No of course not but it can make sounds that synths like Ob-xd and Tyrell could never dream of making.

For $35 or even $50 if you don't have JamPoints it's a great bargain but you have to be able to recognize it's potential.

Potentially a great set of instruments, but the download process takes soooooo long and I'm on broadband here. So many different parts, updates, soundsets and I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the Apple download is listed as windows and vice versa. PITA. And the size of the downloads are huge.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Post

I noticed that the new Synths are showing up in the product manager as already installed. For anyone else that was tripped up by this, on the Sounds tab, choose ... more options > reinstall library.

I just downloaded the content for the DCO-X and got speeds ranging from 15 to 41 megabytes per second during the process. The second part which is 1.7 gigs in size took 1 minute 17 seconds. The whole package took under five minutes. It seems to be much faster early in the morning (Pacific time here).

As more people join, the total amount of data being downloaded is going to increase so I'd expect times to slow unless IK has beefed up their bandwidth during the group buy.

Yes I noticed but it's only under the "Download Resources" tab not the Sounds download tab. I don't think we need the files on the resources page since they appear to be included on the sounds page under updates. For example trying to download the windows version of the DCO-X updater (by clicking on the Mac button) on the resources returns a 404 file not found.

Such is the nature of sample based instruments.

Anyway in case anyone missed it we're at 10 free now....... :tu:

On the subject of participants.....

Say it reaches 3000 and they all paid the full $50 ($49.99) that's only $150,000 which for a company like IK doesn't seem like a whole lot of money.

If only half use JamPoints to bring it down to $35 that makes it $127,500 which for us as individuals seems like a lot of money but again for one of the larger companies in the market it seems more like a fire sale.

Anyway just a casual observation......

Getting 74 Mbps via broadband cable here... it's one of the new synths at almost 20 GB, broken up into a 6 part download.

Bits or Bytes? 74 megabits would be 9.25 megabytes per second.

I have a 400 Mbps connection with a theoretical top speed of 50 MB/s but of course it rarely hits that since I'm also streaming on the TV etc.

I hit 41 MB/s during one of the IK downloads today but it fluctuated at times all the way down to 19.

I sure hope IK has foreseen the bandwidth requirement needed to handle 3000 participants downloading the files for 33 instruments. :?

Anyway on the subject of Presets has anyone noticed that many of them are way over driven into the red and clipping?

I like my presets hot but not so hot they melt the speakers...... :?

Bits as in Mbps with a lower case "b", as displayed in Windows Task Manager. That's also normally the top speed my network connection tops out at when tested with speedtest.net - also displayed in Mbps.

I imagine that IKM uses global 3rd party Content Delivery Networks (CDN). I suppose the throughput would vary at times based on load balancing for the CDN in use for your region. The ugly details here >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_delivery_network

Likely it's $100k+ that they wouldn't have seen otherwise though. These Group Buys do bring the price down to the "impulse buy" level.

Which would be an admission that Synthronik 2 is no longer selling enough units at the current price of $149.99

EDIT: Now 11 free with 67 38 7 left to the next level. :tu:
