Yes it also seems they all have a similar name to the Oberheims lmao

That MS-20 rips tho. Def the stand out of the bunch

How do they have the Korg license when Korg makes their own competing product? Very weird.
It does sound great! Especially the quirky mk1 filters.

The Korg license is surprising indeed. I'm assuming it's a license and not an actual collaboration, but it's pretty uncommon for a company to license its name when they have their own competing product.

P is just the closest letter (in terms of shape) to B. I guess they could have gone for similar sound instead and called it OD-Xa V, but…yeah…probably don't want "OD" in a product name.

The name change is unfortunate though. What happens when you try to open a project that was using "OB-Xa V"? Probably "plugin not found", in which case you can replace it with the new version, hope you can remember what patch was loaded (probably not), and if you tweaked it in any way (definitely not).

It's not bad. Better than the old Korg one. Still doesn't have quite the punch though, but that's an issue with Arturia synths in general. Good for slower attack sounds, but misses the in your face sound of analog I think. I don't know if it's missing some high frequencies or if it's an issue with their envelopes or what, but other analog emulations don't seem to have this issue. I don't know how others don't hear it.

Because it's subjective, that's how.

I did some work with their MS20 last night ,and was pretty impressed with the resonance and hi / low pass filters, and am blown away by how good it sounds. Is it as good as analog, I'm not saying it is, but the idea it modulates better, also with the efx, total recall, and polyphonic, makes their new MS20 pretty damn special!

Collaboration, as I stated a couple of pages back. At least if other blurbs mentioned on the interwebs are accurate.

Midi mapping the selection of wavetables in the Prophet VS is legit. It's so much nicer to be able to scroll through the list with a knob vs the mouse.

This is an area I think Arturia leaves pretty much all the competition other than cherry audio and spectrasonics which do a fine job as well for mapping controllers.

Well I gotta take Abby to the dog park right now but I am set up for some fun tonight:

For those who may be scratching their head about why the pulse width on oscillator 1 cuts out by like the 2 o'clock position, it does that on mine too. At least I know my unit isn't faulty now!

so now in Analog Lab, I can't open the older CS-80 that I do already own. neat.
(I don't care enough to report it)

I know I'm being That Guy right now, but honestly, I'm not hearing anything in this that the V3 version couldn't do just as well. In fact, the Blade Runner specific patches from Nori Ubukata for V3 sound, imho, better than the patches demo'd here, and those can't even be used in V4.

(Nori's BR patches are an add-on sound bank in the Arturia shop, not the factory library, btw. I wonder if with the release of V4, they've removed those older sound banks from the shop, though).

Taken purely on its own terms, nice vid. Taken in a thread discussing V4 specifically, which it is... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I agree, it sounds ok, but I don't see anything too special compared to other synths that could do CS-80 sounds just as well.
Would the pad sound of Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of philadelphia" be a challenge for the CS-80 V4?

I have updated mine to the OP-Xa, and it opens just fine. The name continues to show as OB-Xa in the instrument slot for existing instances.

As long as the internal plugin ID didn't change, the plugin's name or filename shouldn't matter.

And it looks like jamcat confirmed it's using the same plugin ID; presets remembered and everything. :tu:

That's good news! I've been bitten by that problem in the past, but now that I think of it, it was always a new version of a plugin with a different name (like FM7 → FM8, or Absynth → Absynth 2), not a simple rename.
