ADL periodically just decides to make my DAW stop detecting midi from my controller, leading seemingly to my having to completely quit out of Reaper and restart it. (Just re-applying device settings doesn't do it.)

Anyone else? Anyone? Anyone?

I have had so many problems with this plugin, and I was looking forward to using it as a nice basic intro to FM but now I'm afraid I'm going to have metaphorical ptsd every time I think about FM. :/

(Note: It is not the issue where it resets chip number to zero every time, I am already accounting for that.)

Has anyone found a case where the 3-4 feedback knob in ADL makes a difference? I haven't heard a difference and the only feedback shown in any algo diagram has it affecting 1 only.

It works only for 2x2op patches. Definitely does work. 2x2 op gives one or both algorithms shown as FM and AM

Just want to make sure I'm not missing something--it's possible to automate levels in ADL, but not frequencies or envelopes, correct? (At least, in Reaper, I only see hooks for automating levels, nothing else.)

I also have to be very careful about opening the gui while reaper is playing. I have had to close reaper and reopen like maybe 50 times.

Unfortunately, you're not missing anything : ( I was messing around with freq/ratio on a sound and reached for the automation only to be disappointed. I'm struggling with this one...

It also does not respond to automation during a note but only samples any automated parameter on note-on.

Metal music etc... is not at all my universe, yet a few years ago I was watching a documentary on youtube, on a genre called "dungeon synth", which was used as interlude between metal pieces in the 90s.
A synth sound, medieval melodies, a dark side sometimes, old video games etc... it got me a lot more because I like fantastic music etc...
So I bought albums like that on some sites like bandcamp etc.

Garvalf composes his sounds with an underground philosophy, free software, free plugins etc.. partly with the ADLplug plugin or Dexed as it explains on some pages.
I discovered this when I saw his name mentioned in the acknowledgements at the bottom of the ADLplug manual.

I would try to do something like that this month, but I don’t feel too inspired and I’m not sure people like these genres (and I suck at mastering

I'd give that a listen! Hell, OSC159 gave me some nice jazz pieces and I thought I didn't like jazz!

Gatelab is okay to use right? It is a gate step sequencer, which IIUC basically just messes with the volume of each step.

I liked layering the ADLplugs somewhat. It might have been the more effective stage of my mixing...

Kind of fun when you add a layer to another 1 or 2 and it's very transformative and adds prominence, but mute the original two and the addon layer seems rather weak.

(Hopefully I don't drown out the question about Gatelab.)
