i hear you, but i think that's it; that the beta is a 'reward' for the pro & sub ppl... and, as a pro user, i appreciate the perk...Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:26 pm The problem with restricting the beta to Pro and Sub levels is that I imagine they make up a smaller percentage of the user base than Plus and Free users (based on interactions on the Vital forums and the number of YouTubers who keep telling people that "Vital is totally free")
So let's just say it's a 50/50 split between the levels. That means when 1.5.1 is released to the whole user base the number of people testing it will double and it's almost a certainty that more bugs and issues will be found.
Holding the beta back really serves no purpose other than "rewarding" the Pro and Sub users with the task of being free beta testers.![]()

Yeah, disappointed as a Plus user, didn’t really want the additional presets or wavetables but didn’t see anything indicating I’d have to wait for updates when I purchased Vital.Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:26 pm

Well if you feel like having to beta test Vital so the free users can get the same version without any effort is a reward then more power to you.fisherKing wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:46 pm i hear you, but i think that's it; that the beta is a 'reward' for the pro & sub ppl... and, as a pro user, i appreciate the perk...
But what is happening is that people who purchase the Plus version now get a plugin that hasn't been updated in over a year and a half and still contains bugs and issues. There are still reports coming in to this day.
I purchased the "In the Mix" early access version but that only gained us the Plus version. I've been looking for a reason to update to the Pro version but paying to be an unpaid beta tester is not a sufficient reason for me.
I realize that Vial underwent a total rewrite and life can get in the way especially for one man operations but the slow pace of development has caused me to move Vital out of my working folder.
Anyway my point is that 1.5.1 is not likely to be a final release version since once the full user base gets their hands on it there will almost certainly be more bugs and issues discovered. The slow pace of development causes one to wonder how long those bugs and issues will take to address.
I like Matt and he's obviously a very talented coder but I think he bit off more than one man can efficiently chew with the Windows, Linux, and Mac M1/Non M1 versions.

KVR is an endless stream of users writing posts explaining why it is in the developers interest to give them something for less cost...

The perk is that I have the option to use 1.5.1 now. It doesn't require me to do any beta testing... oh, and 1.5.1 is an excellent update and I have not come across any bugs.Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:20 pm Well if you feel like having to beta test Vital so the free users can get the same version without any effort is a reward then more power to you.
And if it wasn't a perk, you wouldn't be here whining about not having it

While that may be true can you blame users for asking a developer to sell them a bug free product?
For example the Grid Re-size bug has been present since a year and a half in 1.0.8 and if someone purchases the Plus version today that bug still exists.
I'm simply asking for the developer to give me more for more cost. I don't need more wavetables and presets since I make my own and again the task of beta testing software for free does not appeal to me.
I would purchase the Pro upgrade from Plus right this minute if I though it was actually an upgrade.

There is almost a new build once a week if not more.
Most if not almost all software companies I am aware of have private betas before they release it to the public.
The pro is like a private beta, nothing unusual there. And probably like every other software, once it hits the general public there will be new bug discoveries that weren't seen in Beta, just like many other software companies.

If you're using it you're testing it. The fact that you haven't found any bugs may say more about your lack of ability than the stability of the product.
At any rate I'm not whining about anything.
Vital is a great sounding synth but I have a folder overflowing with great sounding synths so retiring Vital since it's still buggy here doesn't really affect me.

really, is there ever a moment in time when any software is bug-free? and what's wrong with a developer offering perks to users who pay more for software?Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:33 pm While that may be true can you blame users for asking a developer to sell them a bug free product?

because here too, 1.5.1 is running beautifully; so am just using it, not wrestling with bugs...

Most if not almost all software companies I am aware of wouldn't allow a significant portion of their user base to deal with known bugs and issues in a paid product for over a year and a half.zvenx wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:34 pm There is almost a new build once a week if not more.

How many developers make you pay to be a part of their private beta teams? How many reward you with an NFR copy of whatever you're testing? We both know the answer to that.
Yep and that's my point. There is no practical reason to restrict the beta to certain tiers since as you say "once it hits the general public there will be new bug discoveries".zvenx wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:34 pmonce it hits the general public there will be new bug discoveries that weren't seen in Beta, just like many other software companies.

Even when released to the full user base 1.5.1 will still be a beta.
The only reason to restrict the beta is to convince people that beta testing for free is a "perk".
Anyway as I said I like Matt and wish him nothing but the best in the future. I've said my piece so I'm out of this discussion.

your opinions are your opinions (as are mine); i appreciate the early access, so for me, this is a win. and again, i am enjoying a great, working experience with 1.5.1.Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:51 pmMost if not almost all software companies I am aware of wouldn't allow a significant portion of their user base to deal with known bugs and issues in a paid product for over a year and a half.zvenx wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:34 pm There is almost a new build once a week if not more.

I too am enjoying my 1.5.1 access, though I find he often ignores my suggestions/issues and takes long to fix bugs on the mac side of things.

Yup... I just use 1.5.1 - I don't even think of it as a beta.fisherKing wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:43 pm because here too, 1.5.1 is running beautifully; so am just using it, not wrestling with bugs...

That's ok with me. I have 1.08 to fall back on if 1.51 fails. But 1.51 is solid so far. I don't mind getting advance use of a beta as a perk for Pro, I think it's a good little perk.Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:26 pm The problem with restricting the beta to Pro and Sub levels is that I imagine they make up a smaller percentage of the user base than Plus and Free users (based on interactions on the Vital forums and the number of YouTubers who keep telling people that "Vital is totally free"). No complex software is bug free. Except perhaps TeX...Teksonik wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:33 pm While that may be true can you blame users for asking a developer to sell them a bug free product?
