Confirmed to use about 2% on my DAW. It uses half the CPU of IK's T-racks Comprexxor, which is an algorithmic plugin.

Here's a bug though: the ratio knob is reversed (as compared to what's written on the GUI)

Edit: ah, no - it's not that simple - something's messed up it seems - it behaves quite strangely, depending on the threshold-setting...
Try uninstalling and installing again from Aquarius; that usually solves most problems. If you think something is not quite right, please open a ticket to our support here: https://acusticaudio.freshdesk.com/support/home, and we can look at it; thanks!

Nah no need for a ticket - it's basically the same in V1 - with a medium threshold setting I have significantly more compressor action with a ratio of 2 than 8 - but also the compression timing changes (i.e. basically the whole compressor behaviour), not just the amount of gain reduction. It's rather weird and quite unlike anything I've seen in a compressor before, be it hard- or software. It might of course be what you modelled here, but then again it would be the first AA plugin I tried that is not behaving rather unpredictably.

I hasten to add that it can sound quite nice indeed nonetheless though.

Post

it’s because how the original unit behaves.
Ratio 2 starts immediately at the threshold point, while higher ratios start a lot of dB below. I think it was a choice, so all ratios are providing a similar amount of GR, but featuring a different ratio

Ah, so the device you modelled is indeed the cause of it - thanks a lot for clearing that up! :tu:

I am confused by the manual. The initial attack times are given as .1, .3, 1, 10, 30ms. Afterward, it states 99% approximately, .6, 4.3, 8.3, 21, 31, 41ms. What do the second series of times relate to? Why are there two sets of different timings? There is only one set for the release times (1, .2, ,.6, .8, 1,6) and there is no unit of time given (I assume it is ms?). Also, why are there ahead times given for setting 1 and 3 for the Shmod nob? I don't understand why setting 4 has a list of different ahead times while the others only have one ahead time? The manual could be definitely improved by providing more details.
Thanks for the help.

The first series of values are the GUI values (copied from the real hardware) and are all expressed in ms., the second series are the true value, measured by us analyzing the curves.

Update available in Aquarius. Tan2 (rel A018).
What's new?
- Added a new compressor! (Hyper Algorithmic Attack Tan).
- Controls (ratio, attack, release) are continuous now (no longer stepped).

What about the release times on the unit (1, .2, ,.6, .8, 1.6)? Are they fairly accurate in ms?
Thanks.

Do I have to delete the older version before installing the new one or
will it replace automatically without using disc space twice?

To update TAN2, simply go to "updates" in Aquarius and click update; that's it!
