Hi everyone, first post here.

I've been debating if I need multiple coloration software. I have RC-20 but would like to get J37 by Waves and Reels by Audiothing and I'm debating if I really need em, if they are different in their application or not. We all want them all, that's for sure, there's no such thing as too many plugins  but if you guys have any experience with these plugins and how you use them, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on them

Cheers

RC-20 is better than J37. I haven't tried Reels.

If I had RC-20 (which I do) I wouldn't bother with the other two.

I've been impressed with Exite Audio's Lifeline Console and Lifeline Expanse, sold through Plugin Boutique https://www.excite-audio.com/

Same here. Great addition to rc20!

Don't most plugins have a demo? Why not download a few and see if you need another?

Try SketchCassetteII (and Digitalis). Also EchoMelt or VectoMelt.

I like RC20. Very easy to use, and sounds good, with a nice GUI.

Oh yeah, sketchcasette is neat one as well

The J37 is a good option, Kramer Tape if you want something more gritty and edgy. Consider looking at distortion and saturation still plugins too, like that new Oven plugin at Plugin Alliance and or the Arturia Coldfire.... Berzerker if Waves is still giving it out for free.

"Coloration'? Thats pretty broad. Are you specifically referring to tape emulations (since thats what you mention)? RC20 clearly does more than just tape but there are many, many coloration plugins out there. FabFilter Saturn (distorion/saturation), u-He Satin (tape),etc.

As rezoneight said, 'coloration' is a broad term. Not sure how to answer.

Soundtoys are giving away Little Radiator for free till Jan 2nd, use code HOLIDAYHEAT at checkout. It's basically tube saturation (modelling a tube pre-amp). If you use Ableton Live by any chance, the stock saturator effect works nicely for me. PreSonus Studio One also has one called "red light dist" which also colors your sound. I like that one too. Not sure about other DAWs, but pretty much every DAW has some kind of saturation effect which should work pretty well. Alternatively, as others have mentioned, FabFilter Saturn, RC-20 etc are all good. Softube has a free one called "Saturation Knob", but you're gonna need ilok (cloud) for that.
Ableton Live | Pro Tools | Launchpad X | Numark Party Mix II | Arturia MINILAB 3

All of the mentioned are actually pretty good and as also mentioned, really depends on what works for you. One to add would be the newer PSP - Saturator, as it does the Tape kind of Saturation very good and also offers High Quality internal Oversampling, they also offer a fully functional Trial for 30 Days. https://www.pspaudioware.com/products/psp-saturator
