This isn't a bug, per say, but, might be.. below is a CC edit were I have more than one graphic on the same CC. You can do this by selecting just a single note, then drawing the CC, then deselecting everything and redrawing the CC.. I haven't tested any play back, though... You are able to select the note again, and that graph line set of points is also selected.

It would appear to me this shouldn't work. what points gets the play back priority?

Post

ok, after a play back test, seems that it does work..

Post

The priority is like: CC's attached to a phrase overrides track CC's, and CC's attached to a note override phrase CC's, so note CC's have the highest priority (track -> phrase -> note).

Thanks,
Attila

awesome.. ok, so, that explains a lot and probably why if you have CC on the track, in addition to the phrase, it doesn't visibly work when fooling with the sliders on the track, because of the phrase CC.. if I am understanding this correctly. Just looking at this in case someone should call it a bug, and it isn't.

Hi. I'm wondering if this latest CC work has wrapped up yet. or are there still some open issues around it, and/or desire for more testing to be done before declaring victory?

Post

I'm thinking it is working... I'm not finding any issues with it. I'll have a video about it soon. It isn't obvious about what is going on, so, at first it can be confusing, and it may seem like it isn't working. There are a couple other things about the process which won't be obvious as well.

It should work well. Some more info about how it was implemented with Quantize:

The priority is important to keep in mind: CC's attached to a phrase overrides track CC's, and CC's attached to a note override phrase CC's, so note CC's have the highest priority (track -> phrase -> note).

Quantizing CC's may be used in 2 different ways:
- if you add 'Quantize' to a track, only track CC's are quantized (phrase and note CC's are untouched)
- if you add 'Quantize' to a phrase, only phrase CC's are quantized (track and note CC's are untouched)

Quantizing CC's is a bit of a hack added, I am not sure I like it, but since MIDI CC's are not processed non-destructively I found no other solution. Internally when you enable "quantize CC's" the variation makes an internal copy of the track (or phrase) CC's, and apply quantize on the original CC's and directly changes the track (or phrase) CC's. When you turn it off, it copies back the original CC's (curve or events) to the track or phrase.

This means if you want to edit the CC's you have to edit the original CC's, that is you must turn off the "quantize CC's" check-box, OR you can edit the currently quantized CC's but should not touch the quantize controls, which would overwrite your changes... I am sorry there was no other solution without a major rewrite of CC handling to make it non-destructive, but usage would become even more complex.

Thanks,
Attila

RapidComposer v4.7b5 is available!

Lots of useful settings added for displaying note labels and setting up colors for all the possible chord notes. The following settings were added under Settings / User Interface:

The track menu was reorganized a bit, and is worded better, hopefully:

New settings under Settings / Miscellaneous / Chords:

Improvements:
  • New view option for tracks: "Show rendered note labels"
  • When displaying rendered notes, colors can be assigned to different chord notes by their distance from root (which can be set up under Settings / User Interface)
  • New setting: Display chord notes in note labels as... (chord notes can be displayed as 1,3,5... instead of #1, #2, #3)
  • New setting: Display MIDI note in note labels
  • New setting: Display octave offset in note labels

Hi.

I'm trying to regenerate the rhythm of a phrase using the Melody Generator, but I am not seeing any change in the rhythm, only in the shape.

I've attached a short video.

Probably I need to be educated, possibly I'm observing a bug.

Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this!

Hi.

Q: How can we load a part of our composition (e.g. a single note line phrase of melody, and/or a set of chords from the Master Track) into the Melody Editor?

If this is not possible, I suggest that this capability would be an excellent new addition, as the Melody Editor has great power of it's own and being able to use it as part of the composition process is much-to-be-desired.

Post

Am I correct in observing that none of: Phrase Editor, Melody Editor, MIDI Mutator

currently allow synchronous operation with the composition?

By that I mean to loop an area of the composition (listening to all tracks as desired), enter the editor (PE ME or MM), loading it with the phrase/melody starting point, and continue to listen to the composition loop while using the manual editing and generative capabilities of the editor (PE ME or MM) to make variations as desired, continuing to hear them as you go in the full context of the composition (while not destroying the composition at all yet), and then finally committing desired winning results to the composition when achieved.

IMO, fully implementing such a general workflow paradigm would maximize both power and simplicity in a synergistic way that would not only be the sum of excellent parts, but more than the sum of those parts in a major way.

Perhaps Version 5.0 ... ?

You didn't show the rhythm tab, so, I don't know what rhythm you are using for that.. if were for what ever reason set to manual rhythm, or, toggle divisions, then it wouldn't regenerate.

The icons would still show though.. so, maybe if there isn't a rhythm generator for it, maybe those buttons should be greyed.

Just so!

Thanks very much BluGenes!

I suggest for this situation that ideally some combination of greying out icons which will have no effect and/or altering the pop-up help text to explain the situation would be an improvement over silent non-action. Cheers!

Q. When we shift-double-click on a phrase to load it into the MIDI Mutator (MM), what determines the MM chords that will pertain while we are in the MM?
