Well, I was in this thread complaining about some little things I had with Studio One a few months ago. Since then, I got down to my work in Logic, retried Cubase, switched back to Windows, and realized that I just can't quit Studio One. There are things I dislike, yeah, but honestly, I just don't care anymore. I hope that PreSonus continues to make progress on all the issues everyone has. I realized my issues just weren't dealbreakers compared to issues I had with some other DAWs, but I totally get that on a technical level, there are always gonna be issues that make certain things just not work for some folks. Cheers to everyone, I'm back, lol. But if we want to vent more about Studio One, I'm sure there are areas I can relate. That is, after all, the purpose of this thread, isn't it?

studio one was my favourite daw at windows.
but for me just not usable with the sync issue.
Doing daws and fohs for almost 30 years now.
so i think i know how to setup things.

who's mixing/producing for instance Orchestra Stuff with alot of tracks with S1?
maybe that's the reason why its not discussed alot more.
alot of bedroom producer (no offence here)
really big productions are still made in protools hd for a good reason as well.

So why did you leave Studio One?

I'm not a fan of the built-in instruments and effects for one, and I find Bitwig a much more creative space. I also work with video, so I found Cubase to be a much better fit for a traditional scoring DAW as a compliment to Bitwig. Cubase and Bitwig make such a great match for me.

When Studio One 6 was released and Presonus was purchased by Fender, I just didn't update my Studio One license. I feel much more at home in Cubase for working with video and my traditional DAW and needs.

I'm not a fan of the built-in instruments and effects for one, and I find Bitwig a much more creative space. I also work with video, so I found Cubase to be a much better fit for a traditional scoring DAW as a compliment to Bitwig. Cubase and Bitwig make such a great match for me.

When Studio One 6 was released and Presonus was purchased by Fender, I just didn't update my Studio One license. I feel much more at home in Cubase for working with video and my traditional DAW and needs.

I am sure you know by now that Studio One 6 has video and scoring support. I have to say that I have tried Bitwig many times to see what all the fuss is about, and am underwhelmed. The grid seems to me to be a total distraction from actual creative music making. And the results always sound weedy to my ears. Clip looping loses its appeal after a while. I do have Cubase 12 Pro and always update it, but I actually prefer the instruments in Studio One. Like yourself, I have not updated Studio One, and I am still on 4.6 which I find is enough for me needs. I often start off a song in Cubase, and then spend half an hour trying to work out how to do stuff, and end up going back to Studio One where the very same process is usually easy peasy.

I’m also wondering about this.

What version of Studio One?
What OS?

Does it happen when CPU starts getting close to maxed out, or all the time, or at a certain number of tracks?

Instruments, or audio, or both?

Do tracks play out of time with each other, or is it a global pushing/pulling of tempo?

If you're not into the grid, building in a modular environment, and the endless modulation possibilities ... you can get lost in the sauce pretty quickly. Bitwig is completely non-traditional and it opens up some creative possibilities that just don't exists anywhere else. So much to love there from my perspective.

Studio One 6 still isn't a scoring DAW. It's a great DAW with some scoring capabilities. Cubase has some sort of draw on me, and I love the interface. I enjoy arranging and automation in Cubase. You really can't beat it for scoring, MIDI editing, and sheer depth of capabilities. Although I use both, I often like VariAudio over Melodyne, and I love SpectraLayers Pro 9. HALion 7 is incredible, as is Backbone with GAN and both have sound deconstruction features that let you rip apart and regenerate sound. For me it's as interesting and creative as Bitwig, just in a very different way. It's not for everyone, but it is for me.

And that's why I left Studio One.

9 years?! Come on now, it has only been 8 years 11 months 9 days. I bought Bitwig a few hours after release and have never regretted it.

I did regret my Studio One purchase though. No surprise since we're here in the "Why did you leave Studio One?" thread. Want to buy my Studio One 5 license?

Bitwig is staying small because that's the path it chooses - a niche product. It is an excellent DAW at its core, with big growth potential in the mainstream market if it ever chooses to go for wider appeal. To do that it would need to tone down its bright interface, and start adding stuff that actually matters. The fact that people need to own two DAWs (Bitwig and a traditional one)speaks volumes.
