It isn't.

It's the fastest mobile CPU on the market though, and a good investment. But, I guess that's not enough for some of the Apple users. They want full world domination. ;)

I guess that's what you get when you let people like Steve Jobs pollute minds for an extended period of time.

I agree with the way you say it...

Maybe one element to add as a current M2 pro (MBP) user is that I regret that there is no offer on PC world on a 30W TDP "powerful" CPU. I am clearly on the side of mobility but I'd like to have a choice on the form factor. I like the Surface Pro and the surface book for example but today they can't compete with Apple.... So basically I have choice between .... MBA and MBP ... that's quite sad.

Edit: imagine for example something like the never-born surface neo with an m2-like cpu and Bitwig touch features....
I would get crazy.

I use Apple products cause they offer me something I want. Who cares about the company!

I don't think Apple will get back into the highest-performance market... for the reason I said previously. They know small/sleek machines will sell far more to the general public.
DAW users are a tiny niche group. General-purpose computer users are a massively larger market.
For me, it is not just small and sleek... it is quiet. My M2 Mac Mini is completely silent in my studio and that is a major selling point for me.

It was the M1 Ultra, actually, and what do you mean "nothing else"? The benchmark referenced other processors, including the 13900k. So you know how it performs with regards to those too. Given that Kontakt is a popular app I think, just maybe, its performance might be of more interest and relevance, to many audio users, than theoretical benchmarks for non audio apps, huh? ;)
It's totally pointless to take a single plugin, and take it as a benchmark for a CPU.
Why do you buy a CPU? To admire the numbers it generates from some random benchmark? Or do you buy it to run software you'll use?! I haven't seen anyone suggest that Kontakt benchmark be taken as anything more than an indicator of how well Kontakt runs either. So that argument's a creation within your own mind.
The whole counts, not just a single use case, or, much worse, a single plugin.
Ok. Last I checked this is an audio forum. If you want to discuss how well something runs Cinema 4D apps then perhaps there's better venues..

Not that it would be possible to determine, but it would be interesting to see what percentage of buyers where that is true. It would not be insignificant.

tbf, the goggles aren't going to help with the "we're not a cult!"
i think it's time to admit, "some" folks are a bit cultish, when we start seeing them around.

not that the pc side doesnt have them.
just our nutters don't wear goggles. (bones oakleys notwithstanding...)

Well, I am only "cultish" with Bitwig studio... Sometimes, when I think about it, I start to have foam around the mouth and yell at peaceful Ableton users... I know it... I am working on it... I have pills... Path of redemption is long...

All I can say is, Jac is right.

One take away I get from that is the major point of PC's in orchestral work has been track counts for orchestral libraries, super RAM and CPU intensive set ups, that run Play, VSL, and wait for it.... mostly Kontakt libraries. So yeah, a real world test for the most extensively used format for large orchestral projects, the most demanding projects people do in the audio world, well, that test is no good.

Again, literally a test shows how competitive the M1 is with instances to failure in the most commonly used plug in, in the setups most likely to require the fastest CPUs and RAM, but it's not good enough for the Apple hate crowd.
