Sampler suggestions? Need disk streaming......

Well, I'm really looking into getting into the Vintaudio group buy. The only problem is, I don't have a sampler that will import Giga. And even if I convert the format to soundfont or something else, the sample sets would be too big to load into RAM if I had any other things running (Like Real Guitar). So is there a sampler that isn't too expensive, and either imports Giga, or has disk streaming, or has a format I can convert to and use streaming?
Thanks for any suggestions. Right now I either use SFZ or DS-404, or the current software shipped with different libraries. Thanks.

Kontakt and Halion both have diskstreaming and can import giga (or you can use a 3rd party conversion tool). Gstudio3 plays old gig files too of course.

Oh, and the only other idea I had was to convert the samples to Soundfont, then use the disk streaming on the SFZ, but I wonder what features from these libraries I may be missing. Or are these samplesets pretty simple? If so, I may be able to use that option.
Kontakt and Halion seem to be so much money. Does VSampler support streaming? It seems like a good choice also, although maybe at the top of my range. Thanks!

you could convert them to sfz format (soundfont doesn't have the gig features), however keep in mind sfz doesn't diskstream at this point.

I had thought about that, but don't have the time or know-how to convert. And then I get the features, but not the streaming. UGH!!! Anyone know if SFZ is planning on adding streaming soon?

Why not just break down and get Giga? It's only $159 for Solo from MTLC. That way you get Giga, no 'translation' of the format, and you will have GigaPulse. You're going to spend more than that if you go with Kontakt or HALion anyway.

I guess you're right on that. And Gigapulse would be nice to have also. I guess I just had wishful thinking that there may be another option, since money has been a bit tighter this month. It'll have to wait a couple of months though. Although, since Sam Ash meets and beats prices, and the school I start in January gets me a discount at Sam Ash, maybe I can find a good deal there. We'll see! If anyone does have any ideas, I'm open to them. Otherwise, I guess I'll just have to cave in.

Really, 'caving in' to getting Gigastudio is not a bad thing.
I've been using Giga since 2000.

I don't use sfz (I have sfz+, which does diskstream), but according to everything I've heard and read, sfz is supposed to diskstream as well.xRAVENx wrote:you could convert them to sfz format (soundfont doesn't have the gig features), however keep in mind sfz doesn't diskstream at this point.

The VSTi of SynthFont loads .gig files. I think it is V2 giga files.
sfz also supports diskstream. ( after converting .gig to .wav )
The big question is how well will these to plugin work with the huge C7 piano file...

NI's Kompakt is a sample player that supports Giga and has disk streaming. It's not a full-blown sampler, though.koolkeys wrote:So is there a sampler that isn't too expensive, and either imports Giga, or has disk streaming, or has a format I can convert to and use streaming?
Maybe V-Sampler supports Giga? I think VS is cheaper than Kompakt.

I just got in on the Vintaudio group buy as well. What a deal! I will be using VSampler. I have never used it for Giga, but it does import both GS2 (16 bit) and the new GS3 (24 bit) formats. It has always worked very well for me in all other respects. It also has several very good ram management tools. It has a fully functional 30 day demo, so you can't really loose. Check the "Instrument links" drop down at the top right corner of this page for the selling price, demo download and home page.
