I prefer the arturia version over the uad!

Post

I picked up the UAD bundle and am quite happy with it so far. This is my first UAD purchase.

You almost can't make them sound bad and they somehow work best on source material as if they hold original material in the best way and control dynamic like a rubber band. Which is quite a subjective opinion but that's it.
I agree with this; they seem to be in the sweet spot and easier to make sound good compared to other 1176 emulations I've used. Either way, I don't think anyone could go wrong for less than $40.

Same - I didn't think I needed another 1176 type compressor but did a shoot out with the UAD (Blue stripe) against the Waves, Overloud (also on sale) and PSP Fetpressor. The others seemed more "hi-fi" but the UAD was the best at holding together a very dynamic and troublesome vocal and will likely become a go-to compressor in future. £40 well spent for me!

Indeed, I am still always surprised when some people prefer others above the UAD 1176 ers...

The only non UAD 1176 I do really like is strange enough sonic academy's one, I think it is called the SA-76.

TrackComp2 1176 hold its own against UAD! :)

Post

One interesting thing I noticed about these UAD 1176s is that when I turn on the sidechain filter, it results in significantly more compression. Has anyone else noticed this? Something seems off about it. The behavior is completely opposite of any other compressor I've ever used.

I think the manual says it's a 3dB/octave roll-off, so on a drum buss I would expect it to slightly reduce the compression triggered by the kick drum, for example.

I also think TrackComp 2 is right in there with UAD and other top emulations - but a bit harder for me to get going. UAD is a bit better but not by a lot to my ears. I ended up getting the Overloud 1176 for $27, preferring them over UAD (and TC2 1176).

My issue with TC2 is CPU usage on my aging 9900k platform. It’s taken a backseat until I upgrade hopefully next year.

Quite unfortunate timing for them as it will probably be completely overshadowed by the UAD sale, but I'm just gonna say... Overloud are just quietly one of the best around. Their LA2A/3A is supreme and held up best in a vs hardware comparison I saw.
Yeah - I generally prefer Overloud over UAD, and the 1176 is no different. I purchased the Overloud compressors instead of UAD.

Becoming annoyed at UAD pricing games. They look more and more like a other PA or Waves.
I’m pretty sure they don’t have a choice but to compete with PA and wave pricing schemes.

If they never sold native versions, they could probably resist, but considering how close the competition is with their emulations of the same hardware units, it just doesn’t make sense to charge significantly more.

That’s just my opinion of it, because before the price drops (with additional discount codes via email) I didn’t understand how they could remain competitive beyond their Spark subscription.

Next, is getting more customers in the UA ecosystem. They just got me in for better or worse and I doubt I’m the only UA-noob who’s been looking for a Waves replacements. I’ll likely buy more things as Native versions are released (unless Softube beats them in pricing).

I purchased UAD and week later Overloud. I use Overloud as it introduces much less latency. These plugins are all just insanely good. The main issue is my mixing skills
