Yeah it doesn't look nice, I agree. Thankfully some hosts do allow you to rename plugins so at least that can be remedied partially.
That said, there is a very good reason why major versions are side by side installs rather than overwriting installs. We've been through this. It enables all your current projects sounding the same, while you're still free exploring any new features added. It's also a safety net in case something really went awry in the new major version (like the already well known issue of loading times in K7, say).
And the more hosts start supporting VST3 plugin migration feature, the less of a problem this will be in practice.

I upgraded to k13 specifically because they removed the number from kontakt and I thought that meant that kontakt upgrades were going to be the same plugin name! Then the damn 7 came back.

Me too. I was thinking that future versions would stay Kontakt only - but now I am happy that I can use Kontakt 6 instead of Kontakt 7Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Sep 19, 2023 12:17 pm I upgraded to k13 specifically because they removed the number from kontakt and I thought that meant that kontakt upgrades were going to be the same plugin name! So why does anyone need the full kontakt 7 if the kontakt player lets you do everything kontakt 6 does?zvenx wrote: Mon Sep 18, 2023 10:16 pm Well technically since everyone can own Kontakt 7 Player.....
Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

Kontakt Player lets you play use the products, but just the custom pages, not under the hood. Full Kontakt let's you edit and add things that aren't in the scripted pages.
For me I don't care if something like Noire is only available in the player. Komplete Kontrol just grabs whichever is available it seems. But some people may want to edit it I guess.

But will it stop at Noire or will everything be updated so that it doesn’t work in anything other than 7?Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Sep 19, 2023 3:15 pm For me I don't care if something like Noire is only available in the player. Of course many other things will be updated? Why wouldn't they?
If some users stop at Kontakt 6 and decide they won't upgrade to Kontakt 7, should NI say ok that's it no new development on existing expansions that will integrate better with the new NKS2 and Mk3 hardware?
It is at kontakt 7.6, mk3 and nks2.. if you choose not to upgrade, fine, entirely your choice.. however don't expect NI to not continue development and updates for what is their current babies, and most importantly do read the Release notes before blindly clicking update all.

Once again, the NI updated specifically says it only lists updates that you should apply. Should I have to rea£ all the release notes in case the update will break my software? I normally update my Ultimate every 2 years (I also have a Maschine and Mk2 KK) so don’t currently have K7…but this leaves me thinking less of NI…zvenx wrote: Tue Sep 19, 2023 5:05 pm Of course many other things will be updated? Curious to know where it says that, so let us start there.
What are you referring to when yo say NI update specifically says it only list updates that you should apply?
But I think it is fair to assume than any updates for Kontakt related stuff whilst you don't have Kontakt 7 is not for you.
But yeah where does NI update specifically say it only lists updates that you should apply?

edit:
ah I think I see where you are paraphrasing that from.
Though clicking on learn more they mean OS related not version related.
Anyway I think it is fair to assume that there will be no more development for K6 or K6 related expansions and any updates for Kontakt will be for Kontakt 7 strictly.

Maybe…I have been an NI customer and Kontakt user for over 20 years…never had an update that installed and stopped my software working but it is what it is…user/buyer beware as you say…click the learn mores, read the release notes…don’t assume updates won’t be detrimental if you not on the latest version . All noted.

Will NKS2 work (offer benefits) with my current KK 49 Mk2 and Maschine?

No, NKS2 requires leveraging hardware that mk2 keyboards don't have.

Thanks, looks like I am doubly screwed then if they are only updating and supporting K7 and MK3 gear moving forward, I was really hoping KK (for my Mk2) would get a major update, guess not now.
Looking like you will have to have K7 and a MK3 Keyboard (I assume a new Maschine will be coming as well?) to benefit from any future updates…
