what's the best roland tape echo emulation?

I agree, one of my favourite tape echo emulations, but it’s not a Roland tape echo emulation. Sounds different (deeper tone). Doesn’t have a spring reverb either.

Already bought. I have an RE-501, but it's in another country so I don't get to use it much. This will make a nice change to all the RE-201 emulations.

How do you like this emulation against your RE-501?Mr Arkadin wrote: Mon Jan 08, 2024 5:15 pmAlready bought. I have an RE-501, but it's in another country so I don't get to use it much. This will make a nice change to all the RE-201 emulations.

I have no way to compare. Functionally the same, apart from modern enhancements. I like Nembrini though so I'd certainly hope it's faithful.sinkmusic wrote: Mon Jan 08, 2024 5:23 pmHow do you like this emulation against your RE-501?Mr Arkadin wrote: Mon Jan 08, 2024 5:15 pmAlready bought. The 'wide' functions for example are better than the pseudo-stereo outputs of the real RE-501 which gave:
A (or Left) - Direct/Reverb/Chorus
B (or Right) - Echo/Chorus/Sound-On-Sound
which isn't really that useful tbh.
I also have a DC-50 Digital Chorus (not digital at all, looks like a 201) which isn't very well known, but I would love to see modelled, and an RE-3 Digital Space Echo which has its own quirky/glitchy thing going on.

I find the demos on their Suondcloud quite useless... You just hear regular, basic delay sound, and you don't get any idea of the tape behaviour modelling...

Almost forgot about Safari Pedals Fox Echo Chorus.

it's not perfect at emulating the roland echo specifically but it is my favourite delay plugin. All my third party delay plugins feel inferior to echo.billydauntless wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 5:00 am hmmm.. I just use the Ableton stock Echo for this.. its not perfect but kind of gets there.
The UAD one is pretty hard to go past..
For a 201 emulation I own de CA stardust 201. I Imagine some of the more expensive offerings are a bit more authentic under scutiny but for me it gives a convincing enough that Roland Space Echo vibe to pass on other emulations. I find that unless you really need that 201 sound, a plugin that dosen't emulate of specific unit like Replika XT or Abelton Echo's are much better in every other way.

Softube Tape Echoes (best sound), UAD (great sound and CPU efficient) and Valhalla (is there anything it can't do well?)

True - shows what I knowjamcat wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2024 6:26 am Softube Tape Echoes is closer to an Echoplex than a Space Echo.
Valhalla doesn't have a Space Echo emulation either.
Hey, probably my favourite "tape delay" is Pulsar Echorec, which is magnetic rotating drums but sounds tapey enough.
Never really liked the spring reverb on a Space Echo.

It's not the most beautiful spring reverb, but tbh I like it better than the reverb of Tape Echoes. That one sounds more like a gated reverb or room reverb than spring reverb.

Any reviews of the Nembrini 501?
I am a little skeptical of Nembrini plugins because I've found they are not super accurate.
But I am interested in how close this is to a Roland RE-501.

I have Softube Tape Echoes, but I don't think it nails the "tape echo sound". The reverb in particular doesn't sound like a spring reverb to me, it sounds more like a plate reverb.Lotuz2019 wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2024 11:12 amIt's not the most beautiful spring reverb, but tbh I like it better than the reverb of Tape Echoes.
