Well, not quite. A close friend uses Cubase on Windows since 1994. That‘s 30 years of continuity. Most of us Studio One users would like to reach the same - without a subscription!

Ah yes, the company that has released paid updates yearly like clockwork... and if you don't want the latest version you can just not pay the yearly fee. Sounds familiar... almost exactly like S1's plan!? :-o

Keep in mind, this is only the beginning.

Ever wondered why the king of subscriptions, Slate, sold his lucrative business, if the future is subscriptions?

I guess we'll see how minor all this is in a few months to a year, when they drop version 7, which may require a comparison list showing the differences between versions.

Other than cpu which could be better optimized relative to other DAW's 6.5 is as perfect as I could hope for. 6.6 I'll be holding off on, if they go sub hard then I'll stop there and have Live 12 & Reaper waiting in the wings. I'm familiar enough w/ both to have a clue if I ever feel inclined to switch over full time.

So I'll cross the bridge when it comes & if it does, I'll do the same as every other company that tries forcing through sub model, I'll abandon entirely.

As for their plugins, Impact is the only one i use so that's a moot point as 95% of other plugin bests them in every category imo. I do like the built in noise/crossfeed thing that's built in that comes w/ S1 Pro and tbf I haven't tried the newer ones maybe they've improved but the one video of their new do everything synth did not impress.

And by abandon entirely I mean stop buying anything from them again, Studio One 6.5 itself I'll still use and probably put on an offline cpu at somepoint b/c really it's ideal as is for me, even w/out subscription only concerns on the horizon there's not a lot (other than cpu optimization) that I want, it starts becoming too commercial and marketing type of bloat then no thank you. I want to make music not hook up to the online hivemind full time.

Hm. They've always been a company which has to make money. They're not doing it out of pure enthusiasm or something.

Exactly. Nothing at all has changed. (Except Diva and Scaler 2 will be getting new updates!)

^^^this! (after a few days have passed and I have taken a deep breath)
Well, then just keep chewing the grass indifferently like cows and sheep and don´t react to whatever Presonus does until it´s too late.

Or react, and use the little consumer power you have to -- in time -- try to correct the company that is going off the rails, as it´s the least you can do, to perhaps in the end get a better product. The more consumers doing this, the bigger the chance the company actually finds itself having to listen and to get back on track.

I agree, they really need to work on the CPU optimizations and getting rid of that random death wheel freeze, that usually happens when I pull up Scratchpad. I've had to disable the Scratchpad entirely and accidental hotkey press just to avoid them. I'm not leaving Studio One 6.5 anytime soon, it does everything I really need and is manageable with some settings and bouncing.

There are more and more perpetual users skipping upgrades, which is why they see the subscription model as the more lucrative endeavor into the future. Unless of course they don't get enough subscribers and start to lose a lot more perpetual upgrades over this decision.

I'm not sure what point you're making, ^ that's a given. As is my priority as a customer to decide whether I want to continue w/ a company based upon my personal criteria which includes the above. Esp. if what I already have from them meets my needs near perfectly which it does.

If S1 7 comes out w/ a crypto coin token that you mine every time you make music that could be intriguing. That's a free idea for prospective developers out there, get w/ the times maaaan.

I'm not buying out of a sense of loyalty? Or.. idk what you're getting at necessarily chk.

At the end of the day I'm not going sub for anything but we'll see what happens.

The only conceivable way it could ever be "too late" is if/when Presonus suddenly offered nothing but a sub.

Then pretty much everyone (with a perpetual license) will simply walk away and that will be it for Presonus and most certainly for Studio One.

I believe the hip new line for this phenomena now is "Did they really go all "Waves" on their customers?"

It would rank right up there with the most idiotic business plans in the history of business plans.

Chances of this happening? To be mathematically fair - I will put it at 0.00000001% - simply to account for that mid-management marketing flunkie who piped up with this idiotic suggestion at some point in some meeting in some year when the boss said "OK - Give me options".

This whole thing is chaos/innuendo/speculation for literally nothing.

Cubase 1994 on Windows ? A newbie!
Steinberg Pro24 on Atari ST is the real deal.

I thinks Bones is going on subscrption. You now have to pay a monthly fee to have an argument with him.
