After much hard work from the team, we are now ready to unleash our new beast. Inspired by the expertise of the ancient divinities, we have resurrected and improved a secret studio weapon. Please welcome Pulsar Poseidon - A wild EQ modeled after a rare and mythic console turned into an easy-to-use modern tool.
The console’s EQ that inspired this plugin has been at the heart of many iconic recordings. Artists like David Bowie, Queen, Elton John, and Metallica have all laid down tracks that were shaped by its exceptional EQ.
Now for the first time, you can experience this rare console EQ with a modern display and features to quickly master this one-of-a-kind frequency shaper.

It's a Trident EQ.
I really wish for this one companies said, "eh, we can ditch the horizontal faders". Luckily Pulsar has the graph you can edit. They did add continuous frequencies and other things but I'm just not getting excited for another EQ plugin these days. Especially when I already own another version of it that I don't use.

just demo'ed quickly, i think it's a nice one. did not compare to all trident plugs but it feels less pinched/hard compared to the arturia one + it's more flexible with continuous freqs and different pre/transformer options (workflow is better too). dunno if i will buy it but i'm a sucker for these funky eq's

Should I or should I not? Tried it and i like the curves. Increasing the high and low, dipping the low mids, just instantly works for me. But it’s another EQ. I’m sure I have something else similar or do I?

If you have the Softube version I very highy recommend at least reinstalling that and checking it out. It's one of the better Softube emulations in my opinion. Unfortunately it's not very fun to use with those same annoying horizontal faders.
Arturia did by far a better job with the UI but in terms of sound, IMHO the Softube absolutely crushes it. It's got a very pleasant "softening of annoying highs" effect to it, probably due to the way the harmonics get distributed. It's got a very unique Hammerstein plot in PD that gives a clear indication of the "box tone" of the Softube plugin. I also highly recommend not driving it hard at all. Keep the Softube Headroom slider at +24dB at all times and it'll sound wonderful on pretty much any material!
One of the quickest ways of making pretty much any mix sound less harsh is to simply add the Softube Trident plugin on most of the tracks in a mix, or at the very least on all of the busses, reverb and delay sends. Takes like a minute to do so and suddenly any strident mix is going to be quite a bit softer but in a nice clear way. Just make sure that headroom slider is set to +24dB!!
EDIT: Console 1 users please note that the Trident A Range EQ within the Console 1 ecosystem does NOT include any of the juicy nice harmonic saturation. Hopefully Softube will remedy this at some point (I've been pestering them about this a few times over the year already).

One little tidbit of info: The Arturia version was apparently coded by Pulsar Audio. So if you got the Arturia version, you already have a less feature ladden version of Poseidon.

The saturation on the Softube Trident A-Range EQ was modeled and added in a separate control you can set to off for a clean output. I don't think it is necessary to set the headroom to +24dB because you can add more or less saturation using that separate control called "saturation". Even with a signal that's close to 0dBFS the difference between having just a bit of saturation (a little twist clockwise from OFF position) with the headroom at zero vs having the headroom at 24dB is very minimal. The saturation parameter is essentially a compensated input gain.bmanic wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 6:02 amIf you have the Softube version I very highy recommend at least reinstalling that and checking it out. I'm actually happy they didn't include the saturation when the EQ is used in Console 1 because that would mean it would be fixed at whatever value they decide to and that would make it hard for us who eventually drive the Console 1 input (for more or less color using tapes or preamps). I would rather see a separate "Trident A-Range Saturation" for the drive of the Console 1.
