BONES wrote: Sun Sep 22, 2024 7:57 am Well, if you are used to paying $129 every two years, which I already thought was too much for an upgrade, then being expected to pay $149 every year is, indeed, beyond justification. Maybe everybody else is doing the same but maybe that's why I'm with Presonus?
The trick is only upgrading when you think there is sufficient value, I don’t think I have actually ‘needed’ and upgrade since V5…but wait for a few versions (years) to pass and maybe a 50%off sale and I update anyway…
Exactly. If you don't need the features, you don't need to upgrade.

If you 'expect' free updates (other than bugfixes) on a regular basis, then perhaps you haven't looked outside for a few years and seen where the world is - the industry (like many others) is finally changing as the old 'ways' have been unsustainable for a while, and the same profit just isn't there (unless you're Apple with a loyal following that spend thousands on hardware each year).

Inflation over the last few years has caught many people off guard, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have an impact. If $149 each year is really too much for you, then seriously look at why you are doing this and perhaps just... don't upgrade. FOMO is the real problem in most cases.

I don’t mind paying for upgrades.
My problem is Studio One 7 looks like a dumbed-down-grade.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

The new beat maker tools aren't for me, and everything else looks like Pro 6 except the midi / audio events, which I don't even know if I like or not.

Staying on Pro 6

I think update is great. Splice + impakt xt a la drum rack will make workflow faster for production.

I’ve never used Splice before, but have read the latest versions of the Splice app, support User content. https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/ ... te-engine/

Does anyone know if the Splice browser in latest version of Studio One v7 is going to support User content ?

Not sure if I need an upgrade to V7. The last Dolby Atmos upgrades weren't much use to me. Nice to have but not important in the slightest.

Don't know if I need another synth either. I've got plugs for practically everything, and mostly I only want AI plugs these days.

V6 was flagged as "the little things upgrade". I don't need another of the same. I'm greedy and I WANT BIG!!!

Hopefully it will be pretty special and I'll feel delighted paying more.

All in all I still like Studio One, and it mostly works pretty well.

I've been with them since v1 so I guess I'm a loyal user.

Do I need to spend £130 to get v7 :?:

My desires are simple - I want to be able to work on a song on one computer and then open it on another computer and have it load all the VSTs and remember the patches for each instrument. That's something that has NEVER worked for me over the 4 or 5 years I've been using Studio One, which is why my bandmate has never bothered getting Studio One - it's not much more work to migrate the song to Cubase than it is to get it running in Studio One.

I recently did my annual migration to a new PC and this time I spent two full days saving off every preset for every instrument in every song (around 90 songs in total, so hundreds of presets), which made it a smoother transition than I've experienced in the past but there were still a few instruments that gave me grief, by refusing to load the presets I'd saved. There's another thing they could fix.

I also want to be able to close a project without having to worry that it is going to crash or freeze Studio One, another thing I have put up with from the get-go (because I've never lost work). With my new machine, this has become a huge problem because it's happening with about one in three projects.

Oh, and it would be nice if I didn't have to remove spaces from VST names in some plugins to make them work. But no, no, no, we're too busy implementing new features to fix bugs in the existing code.

As I've said several times in this thread, that only makes sense if you rate new features. I do not, I moved from Pro to Artist to try and cut down on the bloat. I value reliability and robustness and Studio One could be a lot better in that area. I also value improvements like CPU and memory optimisation and reduced HDD footprints. These are all things that happen but get no mention in a feature-obsessed market.

Ooh, a saucy boi! I don't think I need to justify that beat makers and people who make loops (or uh basically all DAW users) know what crossfading is. :hihi:

That wasn't what anyone was saying, what we are saying is you don't understand how easy it is in Studio One and why those little handles, and the line between them, are so important to many of us for the type of work we do. I don't do a lot of cross-fades but I use the volume envelopes all the time, to balance the levels of different audio clips on the same track, which saves me needing half-a-dozen audio tracks with just one or two samples on each or having to automate the level of the channel fader. In fact, I only discovered the cross-fade functionality a few weeks ago, which is why I despair of anyone finding it if it gets hidden away.

Bruh, reread the posts and my responses, or else respond to me with a personalized Ministry-sounding song like you do. Hahahahahaha.

You then need to pay for another year's upgrades when you want anything new, but don't have to do that until you want the new features and everything that came before. You still get to use/keep everything you already have without upgrading.
