Looking for an (old?) program that samples VST instruments

Hi guys. I'm looking for an "autosampler" I guess.
I'm looking for any program or plugin for MS Windows (or Linux) which can be used to sample other plugins.
Back in the day, DiscoDSP's freeware HighLife could do it, but I can't find any current editions that include the VSTi sampling feature. As I remember it, the last version that had VSTi plugin sampling was freeware version 1.4 but the DiscoDSP website doesn't have that anymore.
Please let me know of any other programs that I could use, hopefully freeware, that have sampling of other plugins.
It's a really helpful feature. If it's payware and isn't too expensive, I could buy it too, maybe.
Thanks for helping out if you know anything.
Sincerely,
mjolnir
P.S. - I tried Sample Robot v6 demo and that was crashy on my system.

I still use Extreme Sample Converter from time to time. It's very old and only loads 32 bit VST 2 plugins, but I could successfully sample some 64 bit plugins by wrapping them first with jBridge.

Hmm, I see. If you are not afraid of possible warnings, then HighLife v1.4 is still preserved on this old Russian site.

DiscoDSP’s Bliss Sampler does it. It is the successor to Highlife. Just buy that.mjolnir wrote: Fri May 09, 2025 8:44 pm Hi guys. I'm looking for an "autosampler" I guess.

Ahhhh... the demo of Renoise is fun but the learning curve I think might kick my arse.
And Bliss crashes my DAW. Dang. Unfortunately, that iffy Russian version turned out to be just be the normal v2.2.0 installer (not v1.4 from back in the day).
Extreme Sample Converter seemed nice too, but I need support for modern plugins too.
Thanks for trying.
Anything else?

I use HighLife ALL the time... It's great if you want loop points inserted in the samples... You get choice of 2-4-8 second 'capture' so if your plugin contains alot of modulation a longer capture is required to get a nice loop point... One issue with HighLife is that some plugins will see it as a 'debugger' & refuse to load... This is the version I use as it has been 'tinkered with' by the soundbytes guy...
http://soundbytes.de/temp/HighLifeR3_beta.zip
It can save to SFZ or HighLife Instrument... From SFZ then I convert to whatever...
For non-looping captures I use Xlutop Chainer which has an advantage that you can load in several synths & capture them all into an instrument, you can also do chord capture in it...
I also have used Extreme Sample Converter as it has capture function too not quite as slick as previous two...
Renoise does it but then you got an XRNI instrument you gotta convert, I used to use ESC for that but it's not as streeamlined a workflow as the others are...
DirectWave is supposed to but I have never tried it>>>

Actually you can "export multi-sample" from the keyzones tab in the sampler and it will create an SFZ instrument in your libraryeLawnMust wrote: Sat May 10, 2025 10:16 am

Thanks for the HighLife re-up. It's just as I remember it from days of yore.
It seems like it still works too. I got it to work in the Windows version of REAPER.
Too bad it can't do 64-bit VSTs and CLAPS and all that.
Also, I couldn't reload the *.highlife after I saved it.
But it did successfully host and sample some of my VSTi's.
I'm gonna archive it and keep it for future use.
Thanks eLawnMust and others.

No from the menu you 'export' as SFZ then pick a place & it will save the associated WAVs with SFZ file all good to go or convert to whatever... I never have saved as a .highlife (except in MED SoundStudio)...
Since it saves with loop points sometimes it's best to go a longer length to get a smoother loop transition, I try 4 seconds usually but sometimes need to go 8 seconds... I mostly sample every semitone for max quality but maybe a limited octave range...

I have used Soundlib's Samplit v1.3 (it is currently abandonware?)
https://web.archive.org/web/20130624232 ... om/samplit
https://web.archive.org/web/20120610043 ... ?product=2
The demo app is limited to 12 notes, but has unlimited velocity ranges.
I simply created an SFZ file for each octave and then combined the results from multiple sessions.
