Are wavetable synths even "musical" at all?

Often we see in product blurbs for compressors or EQs (for instance) some crowing that they do their thing in a "musical" way.

On my side, I have been wondering whether wavetable synths have ever been "musical" in whatever way intended above.

Most of the time wavetable synths sound like badly-adjusted hair clippers.

How are we going to contact all the people who grew up listening to hits made with the PPG Wave and its offspring and tell them they’ve not been listening to music?

We must publically identify wavetable designers now.

This is true but you add filter and things and that buzz becomes magical.

I think people need to stop obsessing over the idea of gear sprinkling fairy dust onto their tracks and instead learn how to write a melody.

Atonality, jazz, aleatorism, microtonality, maximalism, distorted guitar, analog synthesizers, rap, drum machines, turntablism, samplers, digital audio, and plugins have all been regarded as "unmusical" at some point.

Every single one of those same things has been used with great success by many people to make incredible music.

Define musical. One of my favorite songs is the Nynex remix of Dogzilla - Without You which uses telephone noises.
