Slink Filter

Post

Slink Filter is an automated filter bank that creates anything from extreme spectral stereo morphing to soft tonal variations. Inspired by the movement of water, Slink Filter is animated by an algorithm that sends ripples through the amplitudes of up to 32 bandpass filters. These filters are divided into the left and right audio channels, at fixed frequency points, creating a unique, mono-compatible, morphing stereo effect.

Some fo you like myself may be familiar and own the Max for live version of slink filter. Here's what's new : In addition to being available for any AU- or VST3-compatible software, Slink now includes several new key features.

Analog-style filter mode

Choose between 32, 16, 8 or 4 filter bands

Individual band gain adjustments

Internal modulation now extends to virtually every parameter

New modulation sources: Envelope, Sequencer and Follower

The Slink engine and filter models have been optimised by renowned DSP mathematician Geraint Luff from Signalsmith Audio.

Such a great company; also a neat Label if you are into deep, dubby techno kind of stuff.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

Great dev.

I wonder if there's any crossgrade from the m4l version.

I have the m4l bundle. Slink Filter is fantastic. It has a lovely "chewy" character.

Slink Midi is also fantastic. An LFO based sequencer.

I saw a comment from them on YT that there is, and I've emailed them to request it. No way I'm paying even the intro price tbh so hopefully it's a good offer as the product is excellent.

Yep, also the M4L version was quite heavy, which is why we've only used it once, but this is  news!

But wait, am I blind - there is no talk about if the upgrade is free of paid for already bought M4L version users?

Keep us posted - this is interesting

The only comment I could find was the dev saying to get in touch regarding a crossgrade.

It's pretty pricey as it is with the discount.

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

I got an email - it’s extra 20 euros off intro price

Hello everyone, this is Michel, founder of Hypnus and creator of Slink. I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
Is there a crossgrade offer?
Yes, if you email me with your order number, I'll give you another €20 off the current early access offer. info at hypnusrecords.com
The M4L unit was heavy on my CPU. Is this lighter?
Yes, it is generally lighter than the M4L version. At extreme settings, it can be similar, but typically not. We worked with DSP mathematician Geraint Luff, who improved on our best efforts by 2-3x.
Is it a one-trick pony?
Yes, in the same way a plate reverb or phaser is, for example. However, I see it more as a matter of whether I like the sound, need the utility and if it fits my workflow. It can be used subtly for movement and width, or pushed for dramatic filtering and timbral reshaping.

Thanks for creating the thread!

ahh, so that mail with another $20 off, that´s only valid as a crossgrade ?

i bought it. I find it overpriced to be honest. But ok, it sitts within where my things would live......no risk, no chances......

Buut: after some first usage:
i was quite a bit surprised. it´s too simple for my taste.( i have a 2 decades long HW Modularsynth backround)

What i find it should have is:
- modulations for the modulator. Means:
- add a polarising VCA to the first, main, modulator (LFO)
- add another layer of modulation going into that VCAs CV input -> modulating the index of the first modulator vs. its destination.

- same could even be doubled. Would mean:
- running three levels of modulation
- different setups possible. switchable destinations would be nice here.

- there are also some tricks thinkable vs. all that.
- to make it quickly manually jammable

As is, is it for my useages too simple. But i really liked that sound demo in that video posted above. Not saying anybody would need to have a more complex setup. That´s NOT what i´m saying. And i´ve only used it so far within a very narrow usecase scenario
"Plugin has turned Drug now"....and the business knows it.

Thanks for the feedback Funky40! Yes, the €20 discount is indeed a crossgrade offer for M4L owners. Apologies if that wasn't clear initially.
