Controlling automatic updates in win11 pro (manual check unexpectedly autoinstalls?)

Has anyone figured out how to make the "Check for updates" button in Windows Update to just check for updates? I've configured my Win11 pro 25H2 installation via windows update group policy settings to only show new updates and prompt me for installing them. This works correctly.

_but_ if I decide to check for updates manually using the button, it checks and then always auto downloads and installs those. That is really confusing and not what I want.

What I want to have setup here is a way to control when to check for, and when to install updates. I'm not trying to avoid updating altogether.

I'm have not used any of these myself but I have seen these two being talked about alot when it comes to dealing with windows updates...perhaps they can be useful.

Thanks, will have a look. I was rather hoping that the check button could be configured to do what it says, but maybe it's not possible.

Hay. I haven't tried much of these settings. But the way it is now is probably your best bet. It lists updates, but does nothing untill you click check for updates, which yeah seems a bit wrong. I guess you choosed option "2" in configure automatic updates?

Otherwise probably there is some tools, as listed above(i have no experience with it).
