You see people here and on GearSlutz spend a fortune on plugins. Then they update them 5 years later. And 2 OS's down the road your old ones are obsolete.
That's only true if you're stupid.

I'm not going to wish Behringer or Warm Audio on my worst enemies.
Dude you are using a Scarlett FFS
What is your objection? Thing is ruler flat (can't say the same about gen 1) and the latency is so low on Linux. And can be turned into an adat expander. They still sell these gen 2 converters as the octopre today. GREAT piece of kit.
Shit pres. Shit headphone amp, Shit converters.
Headphone amp maybe (more than fine for tracking), but false on the other two.
The only thing bad about it (and same with Claretts) is all of the usable gain is at the end of the knob, necessitating little micro turns to dial them in how you want.
the quality out of the outputs for monitoring is not up to it.
Oh, "the quality". Scientific stuff.

Move along, buddy. We're way off-topic.

EDIT: for the record, the "quality" of every converter since like 2015-ish is more than enough.

Well ok, still I have quite a few obsolete HW units, very little in software really.
You can't upgrade HW, especially these days when so many units are based on
ARM chips, next model is always better.

Though I do think the AD chips sound better myself.

I'm just talking about HW in gen, I don't have anything like that.

I had stuff like that. Replaced it with vsts!

And not emulations of the same things. Just some vst compressors. Since I am on Linux, limited choices.

dude with Focusrite 18i20 had high end $$$$ outboard ........okay dude.

I never had that, though I have long wanted to get a nice 500 rack going, that's about it. Pretty much all of my stuff is for degrading audio in some fashion, not making it sound better.

I literally just bought the focusrite this year.

The two are not connected at all.

The Focusrite sounds better than many expensive converters from my outboard era.

I was talking about my Neotek Elite earlier in the thread. 32 split channels on that bad boy. And analog gear for most of them.

Oh yeah, 8 busses, too :)

And! I only used the Neotek pres on like toms and scratch guitar (even though i would buy syteks today if i find them).
