You see people here and on GearSlutz spend a fortune on plugins. Then they update them 5 years later. And 2 OS's down the road your old ones are obsolete.

Oh, "the quality". Scientific stuff.casiobioassay wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:21 pmthe quality out of the outputs for monitoring is not up to it.TechHaus wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:15 pmHeadphone amp maybe (more than fine for tracking), but false on the other two.casiobioassay wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:15 pmShit pres. And can be turned into an adat expander. They still sell these gen 2 converters as the octopre today. GREAT piece of kit.casiobioassay wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:03 pmDude you are using a Scarlett FFSTechHaus wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 9:49 pm
I'm not going to wish Behringer or Warm Audio on my worst enemies.
The only thing bad about it (and same with Claretts) is all of the usable gain is at the end of the knob, necessitating little micro turns to dial them in how you want.
Move along, buddy. We're way off-topic.
EDIT: for the record, the "quality" of every converter since like 2015-ish is more than enough.

Well ok, still I have quite a few obsolete HW units, very little in software really.casiobioassay wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:23 pmthat's most people in the worldpekbro wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:22 pmThat's only true if you're stupid.casiobioassay wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 8:39 pm

You can't upgrade HW, especially these days when so many units are based on
ARM chips, next model is always better.
Though I do think the AD chips sound better myself.

so if you get a 33609 or API 2500+ you are going to upgrade it? I'm just talking about HW in gen, I don't have anything like that.casiobioassay wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2026 10:56 pmso if you get a 33609 or API 2500+ you are going to upgrade it? I had stuff like that. Replaced it with vsts!
And not emulations of the same things. Just some vst compressors. Since I am on Linux, limited choices.

I never had that, though I have long wanted to get a nice 500 rack going, that's about it. Pretty much all of my stuff is for degrading audio in some fashion, not making it sound better.

The two are not connected at all.
The Focusrite sounds better than many expensive converters from my outboard era.
