Unfortunately none of these track well.
I believe I tried them all (there are many)

Here is an alternative that works quite well:

How do you figure? We both agree that the plug has issues. Why must people "chime in" with stupid crap.
Anyway thanks to those who gave "helpful" sugestions and input.

You said the tracking was good, while Blurk said it was not. He said "it was pretty much unplayable" because it didn't do the job well, not because of the demo nags.

/end "stupid crap"

Then blurk agreed that it was probably due to the demo limitations is why he couldn't get good results. Which is exactly the case. All of this is beside the point:

I am still intersted in finding a good Guitar/Audio to Midi VST plug in. Something with "playable" tracking.

Guitarists want to control synths, keyboard players want to sound like guitar... :? It won't work flawless either way.

Easiest by far for me was to buy el-cheapo midi keyboard and just do it 8) Or go to E-bay and look weather somebody has a Roland hexagonamabob pickup with midi converter for sale. Be aware: it has a rather nasty latency :P

ah starr labs, one day I will own a z-tar (in the very distant future it seems) I really can't be bothered with any existing solution for playing synths with guitar.

I haven't seen anything that will track polyphonic chords short of a roland guitar synth, and they aren't 100% reliable (though they are pretty good). I know there's an electro-harmonix pedal that claims to do polyphonic octave shifts, so it might be feasible to track mixed notes on a single signal. I've seen nothing in software though.

conclusion: buy a z-tar, and send it to me when you're sick of it :P

Hey lsd, I posted about TheExtractor yesterday too. 8)

I also find the demo to be too restricted. It doesn't give you time to hear if it really does track well or not. I was hoping some user would let me know about the licensed version, but it doesn't seem to have sold very well this program. Then again it hasn't been out on the market very long either I guess.

Maybe we could convince the dev to make the demo usable?

blurk wrote:for me it was just chronically unstable, unable to settle on which octave the note belonged to, and if I recall correctly it was indecisive even with the note.

 :?

Now suppose the being-a-VST requirement can be dropped, and suppose it will do fine to convert an audio file to a midi file... What program has the best papers? Widi? Intelliscore? Anyhing else?

The VST route is probably hard. I use an old Roland GR-1 guitar synth which I got cheap off ebay. Plays any synth, no tracking probs.

If you want the best, get a Synthaxe.
Unfortunately ebay doesn't even list a single one...

Ugly as hell, but I defenitely want one.
