I love that band! Their self-titled debut album is simply fantastic, especially the first track, "Hooks Without Cheese".

To be honest, I've never heard 'when I kissed the teacher'.

As an educational alternative, I offer you:

Hot For Teacher - Van Halen
School's Out - Alice Cooper

Skipping school for a moment, I also want to say that Jump, by Van Halen, is probably very close to a perfect pop song. I don't know anyone who really hated it. There were certainly a lot of people who loved it. MTV placed the video at the top of their list for years. Oh, I know that a lot of keyboard players got tired of hearing people play that riff on synths at the local Guitar Center, but that's very different than the general public disliking the song in general. I mean, guitar players got tired of Stairway to Heaven for the same reason, but most people still appreciate the song.

take care,

Good choice!

I saw the 1978 "Lace & Whiskey" Tour. It was on the last day of high school, and the last encore was "School's Out"!

I was in teen heaven.

PS - I never saw so many people puking in one place all at the same time. Ah, the 70s....

Well, actually, the riff is all I like about that song. The rest pretty much sucks for me. In other words, I think the complete opposite.

The perfect pop song for me would be something like "All around the world", by Oasis. Oh, and "1999" by Prince. That's pop, isn't it?

Agreed - wonderful band.

I'd also like to nominate Kylie Minogue's recent "I believe in you"

Post

my choice would be

"No such thing" from John Mayer

the production is tops... the song is nice and well.. simply good. not my favourite song of him but the best pop song

I like "love soon" more

Yeah, I like that one too, although it sounds a bit dated. As if it was made in the 80s.

I think Britney has been over-hyped in her level of talent, skill, and beauty. She's okay, but not great. As for that particular song, if not for the flashy production, it wouldn't be anything special.

If you want something with a bit more substance (and want to lose your 'Britney erection' in the process) watch the "Hurt" video, by Johnny Cash. That's real art, but it probably isn't considered pop music by many people.

To help ease the pain of "Hurt", (and to bring this back on topic) you can always watch (or listen to) Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love". I think that song should be considered a candidate for a list of perfect pop songs.

take care,

Thank you, I'm not alone :D
This track sums up everything I meant, short, catchy, the perfect pop song for me. You don't have to 'listen' to it, it's just there.....love it
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.
