Kjaerhus, Voxengo! We need a high-quality Gate plugin

How come plugin devellopers like Aleksey (Voxengo) and Kjaerhus that seems to release new high-quality plugins
moore ofthen then most of us change our underwear but never decides to release a flexible gate plugin?
There are tons of compressors, eq, reverbs, delay, chorus, flanger etc,
but not really many gates. Only good ones I can come to are Ultrafunk and GoldenGate, but none of them are in my view "complete".
I'm talking about a gate plugin that has side-chaining, side-chain EQ, Treshold, Attack, Ratio, Hold, Release and different
release-slopes and an adjustable look-ahead parameter to enshure transients to come through. To this day I don't think a plugin like this exist.
How about it Voxengo, Kjaerhus and whomever it may consern, would you consider to devellop a plugin like this?
cause it has simply not been made yet and it's really needed...

Definitely needed.
And if somebody should program a gate, please don't get too futuristic about it, take your ideas and parameters mostly from proven pro hardware like Drawmer, Klark or BSS.
A great and also much needed add-on or even extra plugin (bundle ?) would be a dynamic filter along the lines of Rocktron's Hush 2000 or Behringer's Denoiser.
I'm using both of them all the time for guitar recording, couldn't live without. And I'm not even a high gain kind of guy ...
I'm pretty sure the first company to get this right will get better sales out of it than from yet another compressor.
This request regularly appears on the other recording forums, too.

yeah but voxengo stuff is better and cost like 1/8th of what waves costbeej wrote:The Waves C1+gate is about the closest thing I can think of to your requirements.
Wavearts Trackplug has much of this stuff too - check out the demos, it's excellent.

I've asked both Torben (during GAC development) and Alexey (during marquis tuning) about this in the past. I seem to recall aleksey saying he had no immediate plans, and that there already was one in voxformer, and Torben said the *exact* same thing about GAC-1. I said
I guess there just isn't an awful lot demand. I could sure use one. I'm running pretty dry with just digitalfishphones floorfish (the only good gate there is IMO). Floorfish is OK, but it sure could use more flexible attack and release shapes, and a bit more resolution.
I've been looking forward to the sonalksis gate, but I guess they're never going to release it.

My god, if they charge as much for the gate as they did for their filter...I'll pass!

yeah that filter was a joke and bad taste as well. Something like that should've been either 30£ or a freebie.
I won't hold it against them though. The rest of the output has been stellar.

No, certainly a good company. Just a bad move - actually, I would've snapped it up (I like the BIG BUTTON) if it were cheaper.Kingston wrote:yeah that filter was a joke and bad taste as well. Something like that should've been either 30£ or a freebie.

You probably won't find a more configurable gate than the Waves C1...bit excessive if you just want to hang a few on some channels to control the noise floor, though. I normally just silence out the bad bits. Once upon a time this plugin was decent for native work-a-day gating chores, but it's only sold in a pack. Not for those who have allergies to DX plugs. Nice classy GUI.

Huhn, I'd forgotten about that one! That was a pretty good collection, as I recall.kilroy wrote:You probably won't find a more configurable gate than the Waves C1...bit excessive if you just want to hang a few on some channels to control the noise floor, though. Another couple of gate options that I use:
GVST Ggate: simple, but effective. Not a lot of control.
The ANCIENT Blueline Bundle Gate: uglier than Rosanne Barr in a bikini, but actually pretty well-made.

The Sonitus Gate is very good imo.
http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/Sonitus/sonitus4.asp
And it only costs $39 as a download.
That said, it seems to me that noise reduction is gradually replacing Gating as a prefered option for many people working in the digital audio domain ... even though the two can be used to produce quite different results.
