viable alternative to tracktion?

Hello chaps and chapesses,

I've had my eye on tracktion 2.0 for a little while until EXT popped up on my radar - I'm after something that lets me record audio and midi, use vst instruments and effects and then mix the whole shebang down to stereo wav in a fairly easy (read: I'm a guitarist) manner. Will this software do all these things? I've had a bit of a scout around but I can't seem to confirm for sure whether it'll do all these things.

(apologies if this is a topic that's been well and truly covered already - it may be that my searching techniques leave a little to be desired)

Cheers,

NP

*sigh* not again... :help:

it's a very valid question... ;-) :-D

but it's a lot of work to answer it...

I can't even use my old 'comparison chart', as eXT changes almost daily...

- eXT is still lacking in some regards and partly appears rather amateurish compared to Tracktion (e.g.: no pdc, no compensation for recording latency, bad project-management, no support for odd time-signatures, no copy/drag'n drop of plugins...) but all in all it's absolutely wonderful and offers some great features you probably could wait years for seeing them being implementzed in Tracktion. :-)

WOW- now that's what I call a fast reply!

OK then matey - I shall purchase a copy forthwith!

(prepare for several more dumb unanswerable questions along the lines of "how do I turn midi into audio" )

Might latency be a problem? I'm using ASIO drivers through an audiophile 24/96. Never has issues in cubasis *spit*

I'm expecting an answer to this one BEFORE it's actually posted...

I came across Tracktion after struggling for years with Cubase, bought eXT as midi "add-on" and have never looked back.

I did pay for the 20$ on-line upgrade for T2, tried it on one track and went straight back to eXT. I guess it's a matter of taste, but depite the issues that Jens has raised it is a delight to work with and given the pace that jorgen adds features I'm confident that we are involved in the development of something really special.

as primarily a guitarist myself... :) I fell for Tracktions ease of use straight away, total no brainer dragging filters (read: effects) around and recording stuff all in a nice visual workflow kind of way...

eXT is real good too but not for me for day to day audio stuff.

it's Dk+'s latest skin made by our own Branis! :-D 8)

(I would love to see him doing an eXT skin with that theme... - would that rock or would it rock?)

*NP lets out whimper of Noobish despair upon being confronted with the installation procedure*

Oh boy.

Think I'm going to have to read the documentation. I'm used to going "ok... *click*... programfiles/xyz... yes... *click*... OK...*click*... "

I hope the software is easier than the installation.

:?

I think I may have rushed it and done it wrong. I don't actually KNOW where program shortcuts are supposed to go. The installers usually do it all for me and I just click "OK".

Feeling very intimidated and intellectually inferior. :(
