The GUI is not that terrible.
I only regret 3 things :
- once, there had a (better to my tastes) black & white GUI with arial font (instead of that ugly "courier" and rainbowesque colors) : it was really okay : keeping the Xhip spirit but nicer ;
- Having been teased with one of the best synth GUI i have seen in a while, made by Gsoto (i am still confident that one day it will be there, but as i like Xhip as a perpetual work in progress, i wouldn't be against a "perpetual work in progress with Gsoto's GUI")
- new versions still don't keep the default bank rememberered when loading xhip.
But as you said : the sound rocks !

"- new versions still don't keep the default bank rememberered when loading xhip."
yes they do, you either have named the file incorrectly, located it incorrectly or there is a problem with your system.
"- once, there had a (better to my tastes) black & white GUI with arial font (instead of that ugly "courier" and rainbowesque colors) : it was really okay : keeping the Xhip spirit but nicer ;"
(the font is tahoma-7pt now, it was previously a hand-drawn 8x8 bitmap font i made with some fixed-sys for labels)

do you want it like this then?
that is hand-tweaked ariel by the way.. the unmodified font looks pretty bad.

*still using an old version*
Looking at those screenshots though, I actually preferred the "ancient xhip" colour scheme. But that's just me.

seriously though, i can't friggin wait for the release that will bring the patch format to a forward compatible state, i keep postponing serious sound design work with xhip because of this.
I know you're pretty busy with your hardware stuff and all right now, but do you have ANY idea how long this will take ad ?
that's a really importantmatter imo, bollocks to all that gui talk

- I don't know what's up with the default bank : it is labelled "default", and is in the xhip root folder. It used to load fine since a lot of versions, then didn't load anymore : i told you about it, you fixed it, and again now when i load xhip in my host the default bank is not loaded.
- I like the plain GUI with arial better, yes : thanks !
Btw, i searched on my HD and found 2 screenshots of Xhip older versions that were close to this one but a bit better imo :
This one is Ok, it is the one i was referring to (i liek the logo, but i like the plain colored GUI you posted yesterday a bit better)

And this one is really hot (and oculd be a nice alternative gui while waiting for Gsoto's one... ?)

hey, that one *i nice. It's just cometi, ofcourse, but I really, really like it. Then again, grey and green can't do much wrong, in my opinion.

Somehow xhip's GUI fondly reminds me of the days of those Famicom (NES for those in the Western side) and consoles like Amiga.
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

poonna: Of course that's an easy implementation for the colour scheme if you literally want it oldschool. It's a matter of using 4 colours or less no shades/gradients!
Yeah, it kinda does. It reminds me of DOS more though.

Actually, that one wins in style by far.
